Title: Big Four of Thrash Debut Album Battle
Post by: diamondwaspvenom on June 29, 2015, 12:16:59 PM
My first poll in a while. My vote goes to Show No Mercy. Not only my favorite Slayer album but one of my favorite albums in general. Love the energy, aggressive dark nature and NWOBHM feel.

Yours?

I've got to give it to Kill 'Em All. Like the others it has this nice raw unadorned NWOBHM vibe coupled with that youthful energy rush as well. Personally I now detest Slayer. They always seemed like a bunch of rednecks posing as a metal band. However I used to like Hell Awaits a lot. Moreso than Reign In Blood which I feel is way too overrated. I haven't heard Fistfull Of Metal. I know, I should be ashamed right?  :twirl: I was never a huge Megadeth fan. Anyone ever notice how the early albums have that total early 80s 'drenched in reverb' sound? I really dig that.

Kill Em All, easily. Although Black Album will always be my fav metallica album. Not really been into anything they did since that though

Megadeth's debut isn't that good (apart from the title track which has one of the catchiest riffs they ever did) but IMO they got better as they went along, peaking with Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction. kind of lost interest in them after those 2 though...

I think pretty much all Slayer's albums are great except for the first 2 which sound like bad metal to me. From Reign In Blood onwards they were more or less untouchable, and God Hates Us All is possible their best. I just heard their brand new song today and it's killer!

don't rate Anthrax much at all, never have. they have a few decent tracks but I always thought they were the weak link in the Big Four line up.

I never liked Hell Awaits very much but the first Slayer album does have some great stuff. Black Magic is the obvious hit but all those songs, however corny they kind of were, were good and it's a fun record. I voted for that.

I am more of Slayer fan overall than Metallica though I can def appreciate Metallica. I'm more Rolling Stones than Beatles as well it's just more about primitive craziness than orchestrated beauty at the end of the day.

Anthrax were great on the episode of Married with Children but I never liked them or got what they were doing other than being corny and having a bad singer.

Only Megadeth album I know is Holy Wars or whatever its called. killer

I'd take Testament over Anthrax any day, generally speaking

I own and like all four but I gotta give it to Metallica's Kill'Em All. It was the first of the four that I heard and it was a total game changer for me.  After the first listen of that album, so much of the stuff I was into at the time - Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, etc. - simply didn't cut it anymore. There was a new sheriff in town.  :teddyr:
