But yes, the film exists, and it's been delivered from Jerry Lewis's personal collection to safe keeping with the Library of Congress (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/jerry-lewis-the-day-the-clown-cried-added-to-the-library-of-congress-but-with-a-10-year-screening-embargo-20150806). Lewis, however, insists that no one see the film for 10 more years. Who knows why?

I mean, you're in this business long enough, you learn that lost in post production Hell feeling, but when the director decides he made a mistake, and this should never be seen by anyone, ever... Powell, especially as Jerry wanted the film destroyed, after he died. As to whether it is bad or just "bad" enough to be good, those who want to see it, will get a chance to see if for themselves. I myself am no particular fan of Jerry's. I like some of his stuff, and dislike other of his stuff, but . . .?! I'd be interested in seeing this, if for no other reason, then I've known about it for years. |
