I know this has happened in quite a few movies, where at some point one or some of the characters will end up watching another (real) movie on TV. usually only for a few seconds, if that... anyone think of examples? It's bugging me that none are coming to mind...

The Matrix - The kids at The Oracle's house are watching Night Of The Lepus
The Killer Eye - The two stoners in the basement are watching a porno, which is the shower scene from Creepozoids
Dudes - a gunfight breaks out in a movie theater that's playing Jesse James (1939)
Headhunter (1988) - for no apparent reason, a local TV station is playing The Hideous Sun Demon

nice... I saw the matrix for the first time ever the other day. Somehow it eluded me for this long!

The Kids in Halloween are watching the original The Thing.
And while Jackie Chan is fighting a dude in a cinema in City Hunter, Bruce Lee's Game of Death is showing.

In Adventures In Babysitting, the kids are watching The Trollenberg Terror / The Crawling Eye.   :teddyr:

In the McCloud episode SOMEONE'S OUT TO GET JENNY, the bad guy is watching The Black Cat on TV.

I've remembered the movie which got me thinking about this was HOME ALONE. there's a scene where Kevin's watching some old gangster type flick, and I think he repeats some dialogue from it. but according to imdb this isn't a real movie and was done specially for Home Alone. - however there is apparently a scene where Kevin watches a bit of GONE WITH THE WIND, which I don't remember

In Eyes Wide Shut Nicole Kidman has Fear and Desire on in the background while calling Tom Cruise.

For a somewhat meta example- in the 1990's HBO made-for-tv remake of Attack of the 50ft woman  Nancy t(the titular 50ft woman) walks pass a drive through that's playing the original 1950's AOT50FW.

In Gremlins 2  the gremlins watch Beast from 20,000 Fathoms  The part where it eats a cop.

There's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD playing in HALLOWEEN 2.

There's also THE EVIL DEAD playing in NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

just watched Bad Lieutenant, and there was a scene where Harvey Keitel's kids were watching what looked like some classic old animated movie on their tv. didn't recognize what it was though...

I have a question, I watched a recent(ish) film staring the brilliant Dick Miller and he was watching a film that had himself in and I just can't remember what it was called.

the WICKER MAN (1973) is on TV in KILLING ZOE (1993).
BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (1955) is in the DEVILS REJECTS (2005).
DIRTY MARY,CRAZY LARRY (1974) is on TV in JACKIE BROWN (1997)
They watch TOP HAT (1935) in the GREEN MILE (1999)-not on TV,though.

I recently watched that! its called THAT GUY DICK MILLER (2014)! I cant recall what he was watching either!

 Also on TV in movies...WHITE ZOMBIE (1932) in HALLOWEEN (2007).
A 3 Stooges short-BRIDELESS GROOM (1947) in PULP FICTION (1994)
The TERROR (1963) in SILENT NIGHT,DEADLY NIGHT 3 (1989).
The drive in in TARGETS (1968) is also is playing the TERROR,
and in TARGETS,Karloff watches himself in the CRIMINAL CODE (1931) on TV.

No, I haven't seen That Guy Dick Miller yet. It was a movie not the documentary.

I've got it. Evil Toons. Dick Miller plays a guy called Burt and he watches Bucket of Blood in it.

Also one of the Halloween movies (part 4?  5?) has :20 Minute Workout playing on the TV in the hospital in the beginning.

I think it was Forbidden Planet in Halloween.

only watched this recently. everything about the movie is so different to how I interpreted the book I wasn't sure if they were deliberately trying to make something which was like the exact opposite of the book? decent effort anyway I guess, much prefer the book though.

I guess if it's on a cinema screen or whatever then it counts too...

But at the start of the movie-it does show the THING title for the movie the kids are watching!

They are watching a horror movie marathon in Halloween (1978) during which footage from both Forbidden Planet and The Thing (1951) were shown. Definitely both...they show the scene where they form the shape of the UFO under the ice from the Thing too.

Mmm...  I'd have to look at it again to see if there is also a clip from THE THING which sounds right... the opening...

When we see Michael Myers through the window, across the street, the movie on TV is FORBIDDEN PLANET.

I'm pretty sure Blood Cult was watched during a scene in The Ripper (1985). Now THAT'S horrifying.  :smile:

Hellraiser (1987) is on TV in Scorsese's Cape Fear (1991) remake.
Chevy Chase is watching the musical She's Working Her Way Through College (1952) on TV in Spies Like Us (1985).

At the conclusion of Eddie and The Cruisers, a crowd - which includes a very familiar face*- watches the end of a documentary in a shop window.

They watch DAUGHTER OF HORROR (1955) on screen in the theater  in the BLOB (1958).In an episode of Criminal Minds they watch the BLOB on screen when an arsonist sets the theater on fire!

In the Monster episode of Millennium , the creepy young girl is watching a scene of The Fly on television. She also laughs when the spider's web is squashed.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

When I first read the title of this thread, Pink Floyd The Wall (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084503/) (1982) immediately came to mind.  Throughout the movie, "Pink" continuously watches "The Dam Busters (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046889/)" (1955) on TV.

If you go to a movie's IMDb page and click on "See more" in the "Connections" area, it will bring you to a page listing, among other things, all other movies or TV shows that are shown in the movie (in the "Features" category).

In Donnie Darko the title character and his girlfriend watch The Evil Dead in a theater.

In "Lair of the White Worm," when Mary Trent (Sammi David) is exploring Temple House, while the villainess is out, she walks in on her mother Dorothy Trent (Imogen Claire), who has not been seen for the past year, watching TV on which a woman (Jackie Russell) is dancing with a snake. Not only do you have another snake reference, but . . .?! when the woman puts the snake up to her mouth, there is the sexual connotation of an oral nature.

Then sometime before this, we get James D'Ampton (Hugh Grant) watching Melies' "The Brahmin and the Butterfly" from 1901 on the TV in the bedroom. 1901 to 1988 or 87 years, is that another record?

In The Omega Man, Charlton Heston's character Neville watches Woodstock in the theater, not on TV. Another character played by Heston on the TV series SeaQuest, in the episode "Abalon",  his character named Abalon watches the film Metropolis...

In Android (1982), Max pulls up Metropolis on video while listening in on Dr. Daniel's plans to use Maggie to program Cassandra.

In Tobe Hooper's Invaders from Mars (1986) remake they are watching Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce (1985) on TV.

in Uncle Buck (1989) Macauley Culkin's character sees Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci through the mail slot. The same mail slot footage of Pesci and Stern can be seen one year later in Home Alone (1990).

I think pretty much every Stoner movie has a person or two watching TV or a movie in it at some point. I think it's in the contract and they're legally obligated to shoot a 'slacker staring at the tv' scene

Speaking of Home Alone, characters in the first and second film watch It's a Wonderful Life in foreign languages on TV. Pretty sure the Grinch shows up in both too, the classic cartoon version. and I think the classic Miracle on 34th Street appeared in one of them as well.

nice. I guess the ultimate would be a movie where the characters watch a movie that hasn't been released yet, lol


actually my all time fav stoner movie Dazed & Confused doesn't.

In ROB ZOMBIE's remake of HALLOWEEN (2007) at nearly 25 minutes in, we see the lousy stepfather asleep in his chair on Halloween night in front of the TV... WHITE ZOMBIE is playing. 

In Back to the Future 2 someone watches For a Fist Full of Dollars. I can't remember who as I haven't seen that movie in years.
