Title: Do People still go to High School Reunions?
Post by: claws on October 03, 2015, 12:35:19 AM
Seems like our class has a reunion every five years. I never went to any because, well, I didn't really associate much with the people from my class (my back then best friends went to different schools) and it wasn't really hard to do so. I disliked our teacher (he was a jerk) and half of my class had like everybody on "ignore". The girls in my class were uptight / stuck up (shy?) and hardly ever spoke so, no desire to see these people again.

My nephew works with a guy who was in my class and he's been bugging my nephew to talk me into going to our upcoming reunion. He was our class bully. He always interrupted class and was sent to the principals office many times. He used to spit (literally) on me and others, calling us names, trying to take our lunch money, constantly threatening us, starting fights. Nobody liked him and obviously he didn't like us, and I think we never exchanged more than two or three words during nine years of school. Not that I'm holding a grudge or anything but I don't care if he is a changed and successful / better person now. He never meant anything to me back then so why would I care now?
Anyway, I'm not saying my school years were hell but thinking back most of my class mates were like strangers, even more so now.

Do you guys go to high school reunions?

I never went and I never cared for the people in the school and the school myself.

I do think High School Reunions are more for social kids :)

I went to the 20th reunion in 2013.  It was the first high school reunion I went to.  I think there had been one at 15 that I never got around to attending.  I don't think we had five or ten year ones.  I had a lot of fun.  It was really nice to see people that I hadn't seen in 20 years.  We got to tour the school - which had undergone a lot of renovations since we had been there.  A group of us went and placed flowers on the resting places of some classmates who had died in an auto accident back in high school.  We had fun talking to each other and catching up at the party that night.  I was able to reconnect with a bunch of people I had lost track of over the years.  Kind of gave me some romantic leads too to follow up on. (evil grin)  I'm looking forward to the 25th.

My mom and dad just had their 50th class reunion a few days ago.  They had a good time hanging out with their former classmates - they were joking about hanging out with all the old retirees now.  They'll probably still keep going to those as the years go on, even though it will soon be getting to the point where there will be fewer and fewer of their class still around as they get to 55, 60, 65, and so on.

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion because I didn't think I had anything to show since graduation and from the list of activities scheduled I was mailed everything would've cost an arm and a leg to attend.

I think Facebook has replaced these in many places. I never went to any of mine

And something else Mom and Dad said was that there were some people who showed up at the 50th reunion and it was the first reunion they had gone to.

I'm always invited to my school reunions but I never go: the reason is there are never any people that are invited from my high school era (1980 - 1984).
