Title: Labyrinth remake / sequel.
Post by: Alex on January 25, 2016, 03:38:35 AM
Looks like Labyrinth is either going to be remade or have a sequel. I am in two minds about this one. Part of me wants to say hell no, and the rest would be interested to see it.

Hmmmm . . .  Maybe Johnny Depp in the David Bowie role?

He definitely has the weirdness vibe going to be a great Goblin King.

I don't get the remake/reboot concept on something like this.

You hear people say the original is a beloved classic. If someone is doing a remake, then someone must be saying, "That Henson guy did alright, but I can do it better."

I wouldn't have a problem if someone wanted to use the "world" from the original to create a new film with mostly new characters. But a remake is not needed.

And it definitely needs someone other than Johnny Depp as The Goblin King; as Jack Nicholson once said, "Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here." Depp's routine is getting a bit old.

More likely they're saying, "That Henson guy did alright at the box office. I should get in on some of that action."

I'm wondering if this came out mainly over Bowie. :-\

Well, yes, that as well. God, Hollywood sucks.

This is a baaaaad idea. Who the hell could replace Jennifer Connelly? I' m under the impression that all these remakers should be shot in the f**king face. Maybe some moron thinks the film is "dated" and kids today couldn't relate to it. Pfffffft. Go die morons.

I'm starting to hate this millenium. What happened to the imagination of the film makers? Its nothing but remakes and stuff like that, and the worst part is that they all suck so bad.
As viewers we should stand our ground and pirate all these crappy movies so the bastards who made it can't get moneyz for their hookers and blow. :hatred:

Why would you pirate it rather than just not seeing it? Why would you want to steal a crappy movie you don't like?

I mean, in the case if you actually wanted to view it. Sometimes is the following chapter of a succesful saga and you're interested in knowing what's going on after the originals movies, but you're sure the new one is going to suck balls so you have no choice but to go to the cinema and suck it up *cough Episode 7 cough*.

I'm just saying if you're going to boycott it on principal---an idea I support---then boycott it. Don't cheat by seeing it anyway and not paying. That destroys the moral authority of your protest.

I actually don't watch any remakes for that very reason, specially when they started to reboot every single fairy tale putting shotguns and swords on them (Hansel and Gretel, Snow white... those movies should be illegal), but when they resurrect old franchises it p**ses me off because i want to like those movies, its just that... they suck so bad, and they're nothing more than an attempt to leech off the nostalgia, a tactic that works like a charm.
A couple of months ago i watched the last Indiana Jones and its SO FREAKING BAD, but what i could do? I wanted to know what new adventures Indy had. Now i wish i didn't.

The worst part is that they know we're going to watch the movies anyways because we love the characters and the stories, and they just don't care about raping them all for money. The only thing left for us to do is prevent them to achieve that goal by not giving them anything.  :tongueout:

Labyrinth II (unoriginal, pick)

Well, that answers that question. I wonder who was involved in the project, and while a Henson is involved in it, which gives me some hope, I'd feel a lot better if some studio besides TriStar was making it, as they are a part of Sony Pictures and look at what Sony Pictures did to Spider-man. (Which we'll talk about later.) Still . . .?!

I might see it. Though (IMHO) it'd work better as a sequel to the original than as a reboot of the original.

Spider-man (unoriginal, kick)

2017. With a rumored appearance in Captain America : Civil War in 2016. Though, there are a number of reasons to see it.

1st. Now that Sony Pictures has more or less returned the character to Marvel, it is in the hands of someone who know what to do with it.

2nd. They are--apparently--going with the high school Spider-man, who I think is more interesting than the older college Spider-man.

3rd. They go Tom Holland to play the part. And while there have been some complaints about a foreign actor (he's British) playing an iconic American character. The complaints have been fewer than usual. Maybe because he has the acting chops and as a dancer, the athleticism to pull off the role. Still . . .?!

If the character becomes a regular in the Marvel Film Universe, I just might watching.

Avengers : Infinity War, pars 1 and 2 (unoriginal, pick)

2018 and after. And oh, yeah! This is going to be one of the biggest "blowouts" in Hollywood history, as . . .

Ant-man -- Black Panther -- Black Widow -- Captain America -- Captain Marvel (the Carol Danvers version) -- Doctor Strange -- Falcon -- Hawkeye --  the Hulk -- Iron Man -- Loki -- Scarlet Witch -- Spider-man -- Thanos -- Vision -- and Wasp are rumored to appear.

And that's not half of it, as again it is rumored that over 60 Marvel characters are scheduled to appear in 1 or both parts.

Artemis Fowl (original, pick)

The idea for this series as a film has been kicked around longer than Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as it has bounced around from producer to producer and studio to studio, but . . .?! It finally may becoming to fruition like the other film, since actor/director Kenneth Branagh has signed on as director, and with his success with Cinderella, he has a lot of cachet with Disney who has the film rights for the series.

Indiana Jones

He's back. Not with Chris Pratt, as I thought, but . . .?! With Harrison Ford in his 5th run at the character and with Stephen Spielberg as director. Completely unknown how it Feel about this.

And we'll see what we'll see.

More rumored appearances in Avengers : Infinity War. Those being the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2, which is scheduled for release in 2017 or the year prior to Avengers : Infinity War, which is scheduled for 2018. Which means . . .

Star-Lord -- Adam Warlock (and played by Kurt Russell) -- The Collector -- Cosmos -- Drax the Destroyer -- Gamora -- Groot -- Mantis -- Rocket -- Yondu -- and maybe even Howard the Duck. And we are still not half way to the 60 Marvel characters that are scheduled to appear in Avengers : Infinity War.

Who we are told, so far, will not appear are Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, or any character that has a show on Netflix.

And we'll see what we'll see.

Latest word is that it will be a sequel rather than a remake, but not a direct one. So something set in the same world, but with different characters I guess. Apparently they've also been working on a Dark Crystal sequel and a Fraggle Rock movie.

Actually, all this, so far, is shaping up to be all good news.

(IMHO) It makes more sense to do "Labyrinth" as a sequel, then a remake.

I can't find anything on "The Dark Crystal" sequel, but . . .?! That's something I see.

And as for a "Fraggle Rock" movie, they have been trying to get something out there since 2006. As for anyone associated with it, the only name I have heard is Joseph Gordon Levitt. Which actually makes quite a bit of sense, if he is to be in it.

And we'll see what we'll see.
