     Indy already knows about this, so I thought I'd share it with all of you.
I have prostate cancer; they caught it early, I'm scheduled for surgery (prostate removal) on the twenty-fourth of February, so my prognosis is very good. Still, I welcome your prayers, good wishes, and such, and I also want to urge you to get checked.

     The sad thing about this list is that this is one of the most treatable forms of cancer, if detected early enough. My primary physician offered to test me two years ago, and I refused-if they hadn't found something while testing my blood in the hospital this past summer, I might have breezed ignorantly on until it was too late.

     Get checked, especially of you're over thirty-five. Ladies, tell that signifigant other he needs to get this done.

     Now, back to our program....

Having gone through cancer myself and having relatives who have gone through it, the best advice I can give is to live. Focus on the moment and live.

If you are in an oncology waiting room, you'll understand what I mean. The people who look as if they are zombies are the ones who are talking about death and regrets and the like. The patients who look healthier are the ones talking about their garden and how the kids are coming to visit next week and ooh so many yard sales to hit and so on.

Like the old saying, "Free your mind, and your ass will follow." Focus on living, and your body will follow.

     Trev, forgive my tardiness. I'm doing just dandy, was out of the hospital two days after removal of my prostate, spent a week and a half with a Foley catheter (NO fun!), and am wearing a mandiaper due to (temporary) incontinence. My urologist doesn't even want to see me until June, and everything looks great.
