Title: Warcraft
Post by: WingedSerpent on June 10, 2016, 10:10:13 PM
My only real exposure to The World of Warcraft has been that one South Park episode and talking to cosplayers at comic book/gaming conventions. So I was a little surprised to find out I enjoyed the movie as much as I did.

The story is that on one world the leader of the orcs has been corrupted by an evil magic that requires the sacrifice of life to be used.  Their world is going extinct,  so they open a portal to a fantasy human world.  From there, various orcs and humans fight against and with each other to see who will control the livening world.

I will say the main problem with the story is that they clearly want to turn this into a franchise, so some plot points aren't completed properly.

The special effects were done fairly well.  Its all CGI, so I know that's going to turn some people off.  There were a few times you see something that was CGI when practical would have been better, and there were a few scenes where I was very aware I was looking at a cartoon, but on certain scenes, it looked real.

The acting was good from most of the cast, with the stand out for me being a young wizard named Khadgar played by Ben Schnetzer.  I though he gae the best all around performance.

This is one of those movies that does not deserve the hate its getting.  I'd actually say its one of the better video game to movies I've seen.

It is a film I made plans to see, though, I am no fan of "War craft," and though my seeing it was superseded by seeing "Finding Dory." I am glad to hear someone did like it, because what I have heard so far, it is not doing well at the box office, coming in 2nd at the box office, the week it opened, which is not good for a film that just opened. Which means I need to see it this week, ere something comes along to replace it at theaters. Unfortunately, it does seem like its underperformance so far kills off any idea that there might be a sequel to it, but . . .?!

We'll see what we'll see.

It's killing in the Chinese box office, making money hand over fist there, so I would expect a sequel.

True. You may be right. I keep forgetting how large  the Chinese box office is. And it is expected soon to surpass the American box office.
