"He served in the Army during World War II and was wounded after parachuting into Normandy during D-Day, the Rapid City Journal reported. He later became a champion Lakota dancer, rodeo cowboy and chief of the Minicoujou band. He also appeared in movies, including the Oscar-winning "Dances with Wolves."

He was actually in over 40 films, helped train John Wayne, stunt doubled for Errol Flyn, was in rodeos and was the grandson of Chief White Bull, who fought Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn. In his later days he did work representing indigenous peoples the world over and continued acting.

A final quote, about one of his final participations in the Days of '76 rodeo parade - something he attended more than 76 times!

“I really never did anything in preparation for the Days of ’76, but I have always been in the Days,” he sighed, rubbing his weary eyes. “I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a part of my life, though it seems like it’s been such a short life.”
