Title: RIP Alfonso Wong, cartoonist
Post by: Archivist on January 03, 2017, 08:48:30 PM
Alfonso Wong was the creator of a long-running Chinese comic strip called Old Master Q.  Usually based around visual gags, it occasionally played on the humour of mistranslation between Chinese and English, and also spoke of social and cultural issues in Hong Kong.  The comic strip was still in publication, after beginning in 1964.  Old Master Q was featured in many cartoon films and TV shows over the years, and the humour ranged from slapstick to political.

Thanks to some Chinese friends as a child, I have a number of Old Master Q comics from the early 80's.  It was very surprising and delightful to find that years later, it was still going.
