I caught an episode of this on thistv. I was intrigued as it was an old show I'd never heard of and came on before Flipper. That's some programming there talk about a one two punch. Seriously, how much did they pay for each of those shows a dollar?

Well, it wasn't bad but it did have a fatal flaw. Sea Hunt man , who's name is Mike Nelson of all things.doesn't have a partner. When he's doing something he's breathing into his oxygen thing so they have to have him narrate. Well, that means there's not much dialogue for one and also it's done in the past tense so you know whatever the danger is that he's made it through and you're reminded of that every time he talks. That's how it was in the one episode I saw anyway.

If you are a fan of the original Sea Lab cartoon check it out. it's similarly "rare" (for a reason) and has lots of scuba equipment.

And now you know where the line, "By this time, my lungs were aching for air," so frequently used on MST3K comes from.

there are so many comments and riffs on that show I had never noticed. That is awesome.

edit: I watched another episode tonight called The Persuaders it was a marked improvement over the first one I saw. he gets into it with some drug dealers who are trying to make him use his boat for a different kind of sea hunt: heroin !

He did the line "by this time my lungs were aching for oxygen" or something very similar but good episode

I'm old enough to remember this show when it was originally seen on TV. So, that's Lloyd Bridges as Mike Nelson. Two of his sons also became actors: Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges.

Fairly common in older TV shows; probably comes from radio. Might also come from real documentaries.

It's not always a sign every thing will work out well for the narrator. I saw a movie once, The Paper Man, where (SPOILER ALERT) the narrator was the first to die, even tho he narrated in the past tense.

The most famous example of that being SUNSET BOULEVARD....

I usta watch this on reruns back in the early 70's. I liked it. No Flipper-ahhh! That  annoying barking sea mutt needs to get caught in a tuna net!
Yeah-I watch it on the same channel too! I love the low cable channels! Reminds me of old cable TV! GRIT,COMET,THIS,BOUNCE-its all good! Bounce will play old Pam Greir stuff late at night!

Oh-here's Llyod!

I have vague memories of watching this with my parents when I was very young (probably around 1969-70). There's actually a porno movie called C-HUNT.

There was a gag in "Airplane II" that nodded to Lloyd's "Sea Hunt" days. I can't remember if it was in the theatrical cut or if it was a "deleted scene" used to pad out the network-TV airings, but when they re-introduce his character "McCroskey" he's in a mental hospital. Two nurses are looking at him thrashing around under the covers of his bed and one asks, "Is he dangerous?" and the other sez "No, he just thinks he's Lloyd Bridges." McCroskey then pops out from under the covers with a scuba mask on and yells "LOOKS LIKE I PICKED THE WRONG TIME TO GET SENILE!"
