Title: Bela Lugosi
Post by: RCMerchant on March 11, 2017, 09:02:02 PM
After alll these years-Lugosi is still my favorite actor of all time.
What are your top 5 Lugosi movies.
Mine-
.the RAVEN (1935)-Bela is so egotistical maniacal (is that a word?). He wants a woman-and if he cant-he'll kill her. "Such a perfect love!"
.DRACULA (1931)-detracters of this film are not watching Bela's performance-even in the boring last part of the movie. Lugosi commands every scene he is in. He IS Dracula. Of course I'm biased-but ask a little kid to imatate Dracula-he doesnt do Chris Lee-he does the Bela voice.
.WHITE ZOMBIE (1932)-the FIRST and best Zombie movie. Look at the sequel with Dean Jagger-Lugosi made that movie.
.BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (1955)-yes the Ed Wood movie. Bela was f**ked up on drugs-but the man was magnetic.
.SON OF FRANKENSTEIN (1939) Bela as Ygor stole the show from Karloff's movie. Nuff sed.
I reckon I'm not the best person to critique Lugosi films-being he is like a God to me since childhood. (Being I'm a weirdo idiot like that)-so? What Lugosi movies do you like?

I've noticed that you Tube is making it very hard to copy stuff. Have You noticed that?

All good films-I almost listed the BLACK CAT-He's a good guy in that one-who is insane-and skins Karloff! I love it!
"I'm goink to skin you alive-bit by bit!"

Even bad movies like the DEVIL BAT (1940)-he finds so much glee in killing people. Karloff-at that time-was playing mad doctors who you felt sorry for. Lugosi-played mad doctors who were psychopaths. Bela enjoyed killing people! HAHAHA!
Even in garbage movies like the DEVIL BAT-Lugosi gave his all!

You've obviously never seen Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla. Lugosi is fine, but the movie is painfully bad.

I will agree that he is always fun to watch, whether in a genuinely good movie or in a really bad one.

Keeping in mind that you said "Bela Lugosi movies," NOT "Bela Lugosi performances..." (which we've done before....)

1. ISLAND OF LOST SOULS
2. THE BLACK CAT (1934)
3. THE BODY SNATCHER
4. GLEN OR GLENDA?
5. PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE

The ones you named I liked. I also like The Black Sleep. Not much Bela, but it's good and very unusual for its time of release (1956) when there seemed to be a virtual ban on Gothic horrors in the States. That would soon change, thanks to Hammer and William Castle.

Worthy of mention, and loads of fun: the Ed Wood opus, Bride Of The Monster. The accumulated value of all my furniture probably adds up to more than the budget for this film. To the extent Plan 9 From Outer Space can be called a Lugosi it gets a thumbs up for me.
