It's good.  Relentlessly sad.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.  Having read the Old Man Logan graphic novel and being faced with the idea of superpowered beings meeting the interminable forces of human aging, I'm concerned about how Logan will play out.

Perhaps that's a reflection of my own views about aging and mortality.  In the past three years, five family and friends have passed away due to age, disease and accident, and facing the notion that life catches up with everyone is still somewhat unsettling.

Gee, that's a bit of a tangent for a movie board.

I finally got to watch this tonight with my wife.
I've never been a huge X-Men fan, TBH - the movies all tend to run together for me, and I never can remember who is who.
But this one is brilliant, ultra-violent, heartbreakingly sad, and completely worth watching!
Wolverine is dying, the Adamantium injected into his body is slowly poisoning him and slowing down the supernatural healing abilities that have enabled him to survive for two centuries.  The year is 2029, and mutants are virtually extinct.  Logan and Caliban are guarding Professor X, even as Alzheimer's disease eats away at the most powerful brain on the planet.  No new mutants have been born in the last 20 years - but now that is changing, as a young girl whose abilities eerily resemble Wolverine's shows up, begging the last X-Man and the Professor to help her escape the sinister forces pursuing her.

One of the best comic-based movies I have ever seen!  5/5

Watched this last night and thought it was pretty good. Like most superhero movies the villain/s are a bit lacking but unlike most they went for understated. I think my partner said it was a pretty 'calm' movie (despite the numerous instants of claws through faces).

Overall it played it's hand well: didn't elaborate too much on the backstory or exposition (eg what happened to the X-Men) nor did it go crazy flashy with the scenery or the editing and just focused on character with simple beats. Not perfect by any stretch but easily the best stand alone Wolverine. Great action, Laura was fantastic (and a stone cold killer) and their gruff relationship was really well put together.

True but it's still my favorite stand alone Wolverine/X-Men flick.
