Title: Don Rickles RIP
Post by: kakihara on April 09, 2017, 02:27:23 PM
Don Rickles has passed away at the age of 90. I really dont remember seeing him in alot of roles. I remember a short lived show called daddy dearest. he seemed to offend everyone with his comedy, which i always liked.

Don Rickles. Star of screen, stage, but not TV, as it was hard to find something that matched his talents. Probably his best work on TV was as the title character on the show CPO Sharkey. Maybe because he actually served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. While he got his start on TV as an announcer and commentator on several TV shows, probably his best (IMHO) was his working against type as the villain on an episode of Wild Wild West in 1966, as a man named Asmodeus.

Making his motion picture debut in 1955 in Run Silent, Run Deep, he was still working in films, when he died. Preparing to appear once more as Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 4. Though, there again his most notable role in films was in Roger Corman's X : the Man with X-Ray Eyes in 1963.

A character unique in and of himself, he'll be missed. R.I.P. Don.

His eulogy should be a roast. Surely all the kind words would make him puke.

Don Rickles. Star of screen, stage, but not TV, ...

The thing is I know DON RICKLES from his many appearances on TV... there's all kinds of TV stars and I'd count him as one.  It was as I grew older that I realized he had appeared in films starting before I was born.  The interesting thing about DON RICKLES is that there is NO dirt around about him.  As nasty as his humor could be, in fact, he was beloved by everyone who knew him.  I grew to love him, apparently a cool guy.
Good night DON, we will remember you.

What I meant, is that--yes--he did a lot of TV, but it was almost always as a guest star. They could never seem to find a way to develop a series around his persona, and I agree with you about  the rest.
