Title: has there ever been a remake of a sequel?
Post by: zombie no.one on April 14, 2017, 01:13:44 PM
I'm pretty sure the THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 which came out a few years ago is not anything to do with the 1980s  sequel to the original 1977 Hills Have Eyes, which is also called that.

so has there ever been a remake of a 'part 2' (or 3 or 4 etc) which is clearly influenced/inspired by the original sequel?

Yes-every single FRIDAY THE 13TH movie after part 3.
Or-The BRIDE (1985) with (eech) Sting. I guess it was supposed to be a remake of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935)

No reason why not if you think about it. Friday the 13th part 2 2.0

Would Bride of Frankenstein count?  There's been several movied made that could count as a remake to that.

Likewise it wasn't until the Sequel to the Mummy that the mummy became the completely bandaged shambling dude we all know and most movies that tell the Mummy story use that.

I'm pretty sure there's some Godzilla examples, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Also, while it's not exactly a remake, Star trek II: the Wrath of Khan and Star Trek Into Darkness is worth a mention.

Yes, I had forgotten about "The Bride," which I saw in the theater, when it was 1st released to audiences, and which was a remake of "The Bride of Frankenstein,"and if one does not like Sting, there is an eclectic cast made up of old timers, people just getting their start, and just some bizarre choices. Besides Sting, appearing also in the film are . . .

Jennifer Beals -- Clancy Brown -- David Rappaport -- Geraldine Page -- Quentin Crisp -- Cary Elwes -- Timothy Spall -- and Guy Rolfe.

There was also a novelization tie-in, which I also bought. Though, now it is boxed up and in storage amid most of my other books.

It is supposedly in the works to remake King Kong vs. Godzilla. That would count as a remake of a sequel.

The 1980s Fly II is pretty similar to the 1950s Return of the Fly, if I remember right.
Casino Royale... sort of.

Also-does the 1997 HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN mini-series count?

You joke, but the Friday the 13th remake used a lot of elements from Friday the 13th part 2 and 3.

Really not much of a surprise, as the rumor has it, that Universal wants to remake every one of its iconic horror films. With The Mummy being the 1st of the remakes. Now it looks like Bride of Frankenstein will be the 2nd.

Dracula Untold was going to be the first of Universal's new shared Universe, but people didn't like it so the studio came back and said "Nope.  Let's not count that."

... pun intended.

Would Star Trek into Darkness count as a remake of Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan?

Would Star Trek into Darkness count as a remake of Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan?
Perhaps; it was definitely based around the same character, and they played around with Wrath of Kahn's ending.

Father of the Bride Part II was officially based on Father's Little Dividend.  Not sure how similar the 2 movies are. I've seen them both, but it's been awhile.
