Title: Bill O'Reilly fired from Fox News
Post by: Trevor on April 20, 2017, 12:54:05 AM
This came as quite a shock to me this morning:

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/04/19/fox-news-drops-bill-oreilly-in-wake-harassment-allegations.html (http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/04/19/fox-news-drops-bill-oreilly-in-wake-harassment-allegations.html)

I did like watching him - ever since I got satellite TV back in 2010 - but if these allegations of sexual harassment are true, then he deserves getting the boot.

Any thoughts?

Can't say I am surprised.  There have been odd murky accusations and stories about him for a while, and he's also obviously an angry prick.  As a host, he's a jackass but is also willing to admit he is wrong at times, which puts him way above many other pundits.

The first time I ever saw him was in that infamous "We'll do it live!" clip which was frightening and made me go  :buggedout:.

Pity that his career had to end this way but if he was indeed what those ladies said he was, then he should take his Fox payout - which I am sure will be sizeable - and bugger off.

With the anniversary of the LA Riots coming up, It's almost amusing when I hear the folks on Inside Edition sound as if they're trying to hold down their lunch when they have to admit O'Reilly worked for them at the time.

This isn't surprising. He's harassed a woman on the phone in the past.
That sucked for her but hearing Bill O'Reilly trying to talk dirty is funny as f**k.

I find it interesting that when Cucker Tarlson joined Fox News Bill got fired shortly after.

Hmm...

I don't know... I'll miss him.  I enjoyed listening to him when I got the chance, and the guy's been on the air for what... nearly twenty years now?  I remember watching The Factor back when I was in college and we're talking 2003.  I didn't always agree with him, but I like how he presented things in a no-nonsense manner and often brought issues and stories I didn't hear other networks covering.  For example, he was (to my knowledge) the FIRST person to report on how all the millions of dollars collected for victims of 9/11 were NOT going to the actual victims (or, if they were, they going rather slowly.)  He was talking about this MONTHS before the regular news stations finally caught up to it.

And yeah, he was a bit a douche at times, but seemed to be reining that part in (at least ON the air.)

Like others have said, if you did do what they're claiming, then he needs to just disappear.  I mean, it does seem rather odd, you'd give up $13 million to "spare your family embarrassment" when you've done nothing wrong.

Still, don't know if we HAVE heard the last of O'Reilly.  If he wants to stay on the air, I'm sure he'd be able to, despite the scandal, find some other way to continue his show. So, who knows what will happen?

I'm not going to defend O'Reilly.  I don't know what he did or did not do.
But I will say, there is a very obvious double standard on what liberal and conservative spokesmen/politicians can get away with.

Y'mean like sexual harassment?   Maybe what they THINK they can get away with is different...?

I'm late to this one -

As a person who never liked him, I did find an odd respect for him in the past couple years nevertheless. It seems like he's taken a very odd course from kind of a moral panic guy going after musicians in the '90s to the hobby historian/fiscal conservative he played more recently. I thought it was weird he happened to get the boot once he started going after a Republican president - I wonder if there wasn't someone pushing 'from the top.' Nevertheless, settlements like that never look good and there's probably truth to the accusations and reason to oust him. Say, what ever happened to Trump U?
