Title: Why Dwarf Fortress started killing cats
Post by: AoTFan on May 16, 2017, 07:45:35 PM
So, here's a REAL fascinating video about the game Dwarf Fortress and how, after a recent update, cats in the game started mysteriously dying.

For those not in the know, Dwarf Fortress is an ASCII game that was first released back in 2006.  Although the graphics were rather primitive the game has an INSANE amount of detail programmed into it.  The world is HIGHLY detailed, each character comes with a deep backstory, and there's all kinds of neat behaviors and quirks programmed to try and make the game as "realistic" as possible.  In fact, many believe that it's probably one of THE most complicated games ever to have been created.

Now, as I said, after an update some years back many players began noticing that the cats in the game were mysteriously dying off.  This was NOT something the game's creator had intentionally programmed in, and he couldn't figure out why this was happening.  And then... well, it's best you watch the video.

Even if you've never even played Dwarf Fortress, it's still a fascinating piece for anyone who's ever been interested in programming, game development in general, or just likes a rather bizarre story.
