Title: ghost in the shell 2017
Post by: kakihara on July 29, 2017, 03:46:38 PM
Well, i didnt expect much. I wouldnt call it crap but its just not good. I thought the casting was wrong, scarletts nice to look at but this role should have been for someone else. Though shes a natural at that blank robotic stare thing she does. The whole thing was just flat. It recreated some of the most memorable scenes from the  films but even with all of the eye candy it just seemed stale and forced, maybe because weve already seen those things.  I think the original animated features are so much better because they are animated and "japanese". Ya know, that weird unspoken japenese thing that the japenese do.

To be fair, that was always my reaction to him in the anime too.

This was a cluster F. Looks pretty, had some good people involved in both camera, effects and sound. But the script... oooooh boy. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but given how big a fan I am of the original I had extremely low expectations of this one (Rupert Sanders can bite me)

This is a movie where the more I think about it the more it annoys me.

One of my friends is a huge GITS fan and talented graphic artist, and he was quite apprehensive about how it would be handled.  As the trailers came out, he was very hopeful that they had done the right thing with the film.  But when he saw it, he had wildly divergent feelings about how it was handled.

He felt that the scenes were done the right way, and the visual adaptation was excellent.  But they changed the script and storyline way too much, making Kusunagi 'unique' in the film, as opposed to simply another cyborg in the original story.  There were a lot of things he mentioned that I don't recall because they required some knowledge of GITS, but he had quite a detailed list of plot and story changes that sounded significant.
