Title: Which conventions do you like going to?
Post by: WingedSerpent on September 26, 2017, 07:40:57 PM
Personally, I love going to cons.  The art, the cosplay, interacting with other fans.  There's a few small comic ones around me during the summer.  Cinema Wasteland and Ghoulardifest are two that focus on bad movies and trashy cinema, the later also being a celebration of long time local celebrites.

I've been going to G-Fest for the last few years.  That's a great one for fans of kaiju movies, as you really have a chance to talk to people from the films.  For example Akira Takarata has made several appearances as well as the director of the live action Attack on Titan movie.

The biggest for me isn't film related but game related.  I've been going to GenCon Indy for awhile now and its always fun.  Trying new games, learning about making my own cosplay, seeing interesting demonstrations, and such.

Haven't been to San Diego, but would love to go.  My group has been talking about making a trip out there one year.

So who else  likes cons?  What is it you like to see and do?

I've only gone to one-- the Portland Retro Gaming Expo.  Plenty of tables with mostly older systems and hard to find stuff.  Got some cool stuff there like the very first Nintendo Power.  Also, there's 100 or so free play arcade games!  I've gone to the last two; I might go there again next month.

Funny, I just went to one this past weekend (not my thing normally) it was a comics expo, and easily one-third of those there were doing some form of cos-play, so I told those who asked that I was in costume too, coming as a thirtieth-century time traveler dressed in these archaic twenty-first century clothes.

No one got that.

Interesting place to be, however. Lot of creativity there.
