Title: Devil's Whisper (2017)
Post by: javakoala on October 14, 2017, 11:01:22 PM
This is either a case of me losing my mind or this really is a great little movie.

A hidden box is opened, and a demon is released. Religiously devoted young man is "possessed" by the demon, and his life goes to Hell.

Simple set up that sounds boring and trite. Hardly, and this is where I almost doubt myself. Yes, it is a very simple run through the usual possession tropes, but the issues this movie brings up make for a whole different kind of film.

What is evil? Are there demons? Do we create the demons, or do the demons make people do evil things? Can evil be transferred? And if abuse is evil, can that demon be overcome and contained? How does the cycle of abuse affect the existence of evil?

Seriously interesting ideas that allow the film to be seen through at least 3 different points of view. And the ending is perfect as it allows you to see the end as represented by your take on the story. 3 viable resolutions from the same extremely unnerving scene.

And there's the kicker: Except for language, this thing could play on Lifetime. Less blood than your average episode of The Big Bang Theory. It's practically a family film! But, honestly, I watched this thing nearly a week ago and I have not been able to get it out of my head since.

Indy, since you are the main theological person here, I think you might find it interesting. I think it will be on VOD (Video On Demand) and probably in Red Box machines after the 19th of October.

Here's the trailer, and it makes it look like a typical supernatural action flick. VERY misleading.
