Title: SQUIRM (1976)
Post by: RCMerchant on October 17, 2017, 09:49:34 PM
Power lines go down in someplace down south in the boonies-Louisiana? and cause the local worm farm-which evidently have more blood worms and sand worms (is there really such a thing? ) than any place on earth to come out of the ground and eat people.
Some City Boy comes down to hook up with his backwoods squeeze and they try to find out why he's finding a creepy crawler in his egg cream and dead bodies laying around. Of course we already know it's the  toothy worms-because we get clinical close-ups of the little f**kers every now and then. A local in-bred hick gets his face tunneled by some of the fish bait-but he don't die-he runs around like a maniac after said City Boy and his girl. It all ends with In-Bred Hick drowning in a sea of worms.

Oh-City Boy's sweetie has a sister who smokes pot with him-and I'll be damned if she don't look like Squeeky (Manson Girl) Fromm!
Director Lieberman's only other decent movie was BLUE SUNSHINE (1977)
I like that it seems the extras are all real backwoods folks.
I love this movie-one of the best 'nature attacks ' flicks of the era.  Tiana watched it with me and declared 'that was fun" and she hates my movies!

"I told you it was a soo-prize!"

Jeff Leiberman actually did okay with JUST BEFORE DAWN, a decent slasher.  Check it out if you haven't-- not one but TWO giant mutant killer hillbillies choppin' up campers!

This ran on those late night tv horror shows a lot in the late 70s/80s back in the day.  The scene with the dead guy with the belly full o' worms kind of stuck in my craw.. yuck!  This was a silly but okay flick, with the great Ernie Anderson narrating the trailer.  Don Scardino did a pretty good job acting in it.  As you said it seemed like all the other actors were local dum-dum yokels.

This was riffed by the MST3K crew near the end of the show's run.  Some classic wisecracks.  Mr. Lieberman was not amused.. jeez, lighten up dude.

Goofy soundtrack with the xylophone and little kid.

This is another beloved movie that sits proudly in my DVD collection. I usually watch it as part of a double feature with something like BUG (1975) or NIGHT OF THE LEPUS (1972) for a night full of 1970s madness.

BUG doesn't get enough credit! BUG is cool! It's got huge fire-s**tting cockroaches!!!
