Title: Weird VHS Videos from Celebrities
Post by: claws on November 22, 2017, 01:44:58 PM
In 1990, Rue McClanahan (The Golden Girls) released a video called Rue McClanahan: The Cat Care Video Guide

Rue and a co-host explain cats and how to take care of them. There's plenty of cat stroking, silly cat gymnastics, and a few awkward cats & Rue moments.

Then there's Angela Lansbury's Positive Moves (1988) Video

a lifestyle/workout tape that got a bit of a buzz on youtube a few years ago. Angela shows skin, talks about her womanly needs, tries to catch imaginary butterflies and debates if she should have a piece of chocolate cake or a sandwich for lunch.

If you know any strange celebrity videos feel free to post them here.

I got a copy of one this included with another movie I picked up. I think it was on Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers or possibly Bloodsucking Pharoes In Pittsburgh.

The Joan Collins Exercise video: I hate saying this, but the only exercise I got from that was in my wrist.

So this might not be all that weird to my American Compadres but:

This was filmed in scotland and features an all scottish line dancing club and is lead by "Country western megastar Sydney Devine" (...Yeh I dont know either). with such hits as "Slappin Leather", "Swamp Thang", "the Tush Push" and "Slosh" its odd because they've very poorly tried to take on American culture. its a bit like when racists overcompensate in trying to be accomadating and end up being even more racist than they normally would be...also half the tape is slowed down so you can join in xD

and as if that wasnt bad enough:

They only went and made a sequal!  Buggedout

I'm just going to quote this directly from wiki, as it sums it up pretty well:

Quote
In November 1989, fresh out of the first of 15 stints in rehab, Haim released a self-promotional video titled Corey Haim: Me, Myself, and I, which followed a day in his life. Heavily scripted, Haim's monologues to camera were nevertheless unfocused and suggested that he was under the influence during filming. It has been considered the "worst movie ever" by X-Entertainment.

Not sure about the X-Entertainment comment but Corey Haim's corny video is certainly reeking of bad cheese.

We get to see Corey play hockey and there's a rather long modeling/photo shoot sequence. In between he DJ's hip hop music, and if I remember correctly he was showing interest in recording rap songs. His monologues are indeed unfocused and the whole video he came off douchy and arrogant. This "intimate promotional video" is a hot mess for sure.

HOW TO OPERATE YOUR BRAIN (1994)
Dr. Timothy Leary takes the "teachings" of his book and adds goofy psychedelic imagery and music in this weirdo video that was at least 25 years removed from any effectiveness or interested audience.

In the wake of the Cindy Crawford workout tape came a slew of local ones.  There's a long running Australian soap opera called Home And Away, which featured the then-young actress Rebekah Elmaloglou (it's all Greek to me!) in the early 90's.  She made a workout tape called "Home And Aerobics".  Yeah.

And here's a veritable goldmine of celebrity workout tapes:

I remember seeing those advertised on TV here. Old 'Streak And Kidney' certainly was popular in his day but a Country western megastar" he was not.

He might still have this, but he certainly used to have a pub a few miles away from where I grew up. I remember one of the local newspapers running a story about one of the punters grabbing him by the nuts and giving them a hearty squeeze.
