Title: What are your favorite ripoff movies?
Post by: chuckwoodjohn on December 27, 2017, 11:53:51 AM

For me my list is:
1. Caltiki, the Immortal Monster (1959), which rips off 1958's The Blob
2. The Giant Behemoth (1959), which is a clone of Toho's original Godzilla film
3. They Bite (1996), a bizarre clone of 1980's Humanoids from the Deep, which was coincidentally remade for TV in 1996

Bonus if it's a bad horror movie

Orca  a Jaws ripoff about an Orca going on a vengeance streak after a hunter kills its pregnant mate.  I think I enjoyed it as much if not a little bit more than the movie it ripped off.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN vs. ZOMBIES was the Asylum's ripoff of ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.  But they forgot to tell the actor who played Lincoln that he was starring in a cheesy ripoff movie, and he gave a great performance.  Really, this entire movie was better and more entertaining than the movie it ripped off!!

ABBY (1974) was a blaxploitation rip-off of the EXORCIST-and a great one at that!

Another Exorcist p**s take was BEYOND THE DOOR (1974) which I also love!

The intruder within, amaze for TV ripoff of alien. Too bad it starred rock Hudson.

I'd been debating whether or not to mention Intruder Within, but then I'd also feel compelled to bring up Survivor (1999) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187534/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187534/) which starts out as a rip off of Intruder within, but takes a turn, but not that big of a turn. I keep thinking Survivor could've had some inspiration on Prometheus, but then, Prometheus was pretty much a rip off of every Alien rip off ever made...

Basically, both Intruder Within an Survivor are supposed to be Alien on an oil rig...

Parasite (starring if I remember a very young Demi Moore) was a rip off of Alien.

Not a blatant ripoff but Brian De Palma's Dressed to Kill (1980) is the thinking man's ripoff of Psycho (1960). De Palma basically put Hitchcock's Psycho through the grinder and recreated his own (Psycho version? Psycho homage?) movie.

One I recently enjoyed was Alien Contamination which was obviously a ripoff of Alien.  Complete with lots of green pulsating eggs and exploding chest cavities.   There seemed to be a lot of ripoff movies made in Italy over the years.  Some that I've seen are pretty enjoyable, but I admit I have a soft spot for Italian horror cheese and spaghetti westerns. :teddyr:

Southern Comfort which was somewhat of a Deliverance rippoff

Obviously Star Wars, a Flash Gordon Ripoff, followed by Alien, a Planet of the Vampires ripoff. ;)

Discounting "inspired by" genre films, I'll say Message From Space. It's over the top, but it has heart, and some of the FX are cool.

...or  an IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE or QUEEN OF BLOOD ripoff!

I was actually trying to think of IT, but had a brain fart & couldn't remember the title.

Thanks RC!

A*P*E is a rip off of the 70s KING KONG. Insane fun that doesn't know when to stop giving. And the titular ape flips off the attacking army -- and basically anyone who spent money to watch it.

Recent released on BD in a restored 3D version, which is how it was originally released. So worth buying.

Some more fun rip-offs-

.GALAXY OF TERROR (1981) rips off JOURNEY TO THE 7TH PLANET (1962). Both are great-one with a raping giant maggot and Sid Haig, the other with that fantastic cheezy theme song and John Agar.

.ALIENATOR (1990) rips of the ASTOUNDING SHE MONSTER (1957) even to the point having both star Robert Clarke!

I think you are giving ALIENATOR way too much credit, RC. Unlike the other movie, ALIENATOR is damn near intolerable. Ross Hagen did not age well and neither did his acting. John Philip Law acts like a zombie. P.J. Soles is wasted. So is Jan Michael Vincent, but his wasting was more chemical based, I think. Then you had the camper full of whiny a***oles who all needed to die before their first lines of dialogue.

And the Alienator character -- sorry for being un-PC, but she looks like a sex change that went horribly wrong. Instead of backing away from the camera like Ms. Kilpatrick did in ASM, this alien should have kept her BACK to the camera.

Fred Olen Ray owes me a steak dinner for sitting through that piece of crap.

How about the MIGHTY GORGA (1969)? It's as bad as KING KONG (1933) is good!

I watched this one for ....*ahem*...research purposes

Just love the bad composting done on the cover as well.  She's clearly posed like she's peering out from behind the building, but her hands are on two different planes and and not matching the shot.

All that mattered is they got her cleavage in view.

I liked battle beyond the stars which was a double rip off.  Star wars and magnificent 7.

Birdemic and Birdemic 2 are a rip-off of Hitchcock's The Birds
