Title: Oprah for President?
Post by: RCMerchant on January 10, 2018, 08:10:22 AM
What do you think of this?
It's all over TV.
I know Trump got elected with no experiance. Should Oprah run?
I'm torn. I like Oprah-but I'm done with TV stars being in control. It freaks me out. Is America so dumbed down? That they pick leaders because of TV shows? Maybe the Situation from Jersey Shore should run. Or a Kardashian.

Well, back in the '80s The Kids in the Hall, already said Oprah is probably God---she according to them coming closest to meeting Buddy Cole's NDE revelation that God is a fat black lesbian---so there you go.

No. Television personalities with no political experience should not be running the most powerful nation on earth. This is self-evident.

Once is an aberration. Democracy makes mistakes. But if it's Oprah vs. Trump in 2020, we can officially declare democracy cooked, and start looking for another form of government.

I'm with you. But Trump is not the first.
Clint Eastwood, Ahnold and Sonny Bono.
No-Oprah as president-no.
Though I like Jessie Ventura.  :tongueout:
And of course the John Wayne of Presidents-Ronald Reagan.
I think it's not an aberration-I think it's going to be a thing-because-people are stupid.

Those other TV stars started out nearer to the bottom, though. They didn't go for Prez on the first try. Reagan had proven himself as a competent governor of California first. Pretty sure if Trump had served as governor of NY, he would have been exposed and wouldn't have been electable.

If Oprah wants to be governor of Illinois and does a good job, then we could talk.

Regardless if we like it or not-it could happen.

Tiana almost flipped her wig when she heard it. If every black woman in America votes-she would win.

But I bet you dollars to donuts it will happen again-because society is dumbed down.  Nobody in the masses read. Its all TV bites. People are stupid. That's why Britebart is a thing.
People are f**king stupid.

I can only hope this is a massive bit of trolling on someone's part, but, like RC says, Americans have repeatedly shown how utterly stupid they can be as a group, so it wouldn't shock me if she ends up a candidate.

If she should happen to win, I be the first in line to oppose what will either be the biggest waste of time or the biggest blow to civil liberties ever seen. Liberals love to scream Nazi, but fail to realize their own tactics are fascist in nature.

P.S.  To the person who down-voted me for this post, all I can say is:

Sorry if my opinions don't match yours, but, last time I checked, this is still the United States of America, and I have freedom of speech. However, name calling is juvenile, and both sides often stoop to that low level. Nice to see how low your standards are. I'll take the down vote, but the name calling was pathetic.

Would ophra be perfect as president?  No.

Would she be immeasurably better than that subhuman in the white house now?  Hell yes!

Somebody on here had a .gif as their signature of Oprah releasing a giant swarm of bees on her audience . . . that was a funny gif!

Y'guys know Oprah's name is a typo? She was supposed to be Orpah, an Old Testament name, but some clerk in Mississippi bungled it on her birth certificate, and so she became Oprah. If there's anything to numerology, an unknown civil servant changed Oprah's entire future, and gave gachillions of bored women an afternoon TV rallying point.

I think I would have to define myself as liberal, but I have to disagree with you.  I often diminished and demeaned the use of "Nazi" as a descriptor.  Now, eerily, I feel differently.  People don't come in camps, but one by one.

I dunno... if she'd been exactly the same, except "ORPAH" ( :bouncegiggle:) she might very well have reached the height of wealth and fame anyway.

Dunno.. I think it's just talk buuutt...

if she does run, oh boy... if you thought the last campaign was divisive strap in, because a Trump vs Oprah race will have next to NOTHING to do with actual plans and policies and more an endless screaming match of accusations and labels on both sides.  The vitriol will be unrivaled by ANYTHING we've ever seen in politics before.

During a trump Oprah debate trump would likely make a stupid hateful racist sexist fat remark,  Oprah would change across the stage,  literally slap his head off and settle the election.

I'm sort of hoping that Sally Jessy Raphael runs . . .

I'm sort of hoping that Sally Jessy Raphael runs . . .

Or businessman and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban or . . .

I am trying to remember all the Democrats who were thought to be interested in running for President on the Democratic ticket in 2020, and the only one I can remember, besides Winfrey and Cuban, is the 82nd Attorney General of the U.S. Eric Holder.

One who was thought to be interested, but has since taking himself out of the running, is CEO Bob Iger. Probably for the same reason, that when Walt Disney was asked, why don't you run for mayor of Los Angeles (California) he replied to the effect: "Why should I want to be mayor of L. A., when I have Disneyland."

What about the Rock?  :buggedout:

He's a good actor and a nice guy.  Both of those make him preferable to the current occupant IMO.
But frankly, I prefer someone who has some experience in government at SOME level to a well-intentioned amateur.

I'm all for a woman president, white or black.  Oprah? No.

I'm sure there's plenty of qualified women politicians in the country on every level of government that is a better candidate than her.  I'm sure she's a nice lady, obviously talented and a successful business-woman, but still.

If a celebrity HAS to run-I say Jesse Ventura in 2020!
He actually has experience-and I like what he has to say.

I admire Jesse for his accomplishments, but some of the stuff he believes makes me really wary of supporting him.  We're talking just south of "wear tin foil hats so they aliens can't detect you" type beliefs here.

This is true...but I read his book-and there's no "secret goverment labs creating monsters" in it,unlike his TV show-which was just that-a TV show. He IS a showman, after all.
I don't think he has any desire to run, anyway.

Frankly I'd like to see ahnuld as president over what's polluting the white house now.  If someone ran and vowed simply to carry out any orders Schwarzenegger gave I'd be. OK with it.

Well, Ahnuld certainly has had more political experience than the current Republican sitting in the White House. For Ahnuld ran for Governor of California, as a Republican, against the Democratic incumbent, and won. And served at least one term as California's governor.

Legally-Ahnuld can't run. He was born in Austria.
