Title: Does Anyone Know....
Post by: ER on January 14, 2018, 05:33:57 PM
Welcome to "Does Anyone Know...." our newest thread!

Here at BMDO we have one of the greatest collections of minds ever assembled this side of a gathering of rabbis who have eaten nothing but fish all their lives, so I bet if we don't know the answer to a question, it's not worth asking at all. Therefore if you ever wondered something, this is the place to fling it.

Law: the Rev's got it covered.

Religion: Indy's the man.

Beer: Sprite's cats.

Movies: Experts all over the place.

Soiled underwear: Trevor's a pro.

Mother issues: You've come to the right person with me.

Carrying naked lesbans: Dark Alex.

The list could go on and on.

All said, mayhaps one or more of you can help me right now...

How come a doctor who wants something done in a hurry will say to do it "STAT"? I always wondered about that, once as I lay in extremis, my hair very disheveled, hearing them say that over and over and yet I neglected to ask what it actually meant besides, "Hurry up." Anyone know?

It's short for the Latin word "statim" which means "immediately".
Why do doctors use it?
Because they're cool like that.

Why did you use "in extremis"?
Same reason-because it's cool,man.

STAT: A common medical abbreviation for urgent or rush. From the Latin word statum, meaning 'immediately.'

There's this awesome thing out there that not only answers questions, but it tracks you, your input, your web history, and then sells that stuff to anyone willing to cough up the cash. It is called "GOOGLE.COM".

I knew I should have kept that story quiet.

Yeah, but we are better than Google because we add that lovely dash of snarky attitude!  :teddyr:

Speaking of Google, does anyone know where I can get a copy of Excite for Web Servers?

Doctors are nothing if not cool!

Carrying naked lesbans: Dark Alex.

Yeah, that's a subject I've often pondered over when I'm--wait, WHAT?!?

Think I missed that post!

That story is elsewhere in these hallowed halls. But I am not going to say where.

Aw, Alex, hoisting a skyclad Sapphic sister had to have been good for at least a few free rounds when you told your mates about it.  :drink:

I didn't have to tell my mates about it. One of them had the bed right beneath mine on the lower floor and was able to provide them with a running commentary of everything that happened that night. (Hey Jamie Parsons if you are out there. :) Sorry for you losing a nights sleep, but it was worth it).

Does anyone know why the wind chill factor is only a wintertime thing? It would stand to reason wind would have an effect on temperature all year long. If you're going to say it's 39, 33 with the wind chill factor, why not say it's 86, 82 with the wind chill factor? I think they're fibbing to us and I suspect rogue Transcendentalists are behind it.

In Texas we have a thing called the Temperature/Humidity Index to tell us how hot it actually FEELS outside during the summer!

Trevor is also a film archivist of 28 years standing, stumbling and tottering around.

I missed the last ten minutes of Young Sheldon tonight. Does anyone know if he got to keep his computer? Also what did the voice-over say about his brother getting married at nineteen? Thanks!

Yes, he did, and the whole family wound up using it, except Meemaw, who was still trying to talk into the mouse as the credits rolled.

Remember when TVOZ at RT used to use "now" and "know" interchangably, Indy? lol Ah, good old days those (sometimes) were.
