Title: Speaking of strays and stuff...
Post by: AoTFan on February 06, 2018, 09:28:10 PM
That reminds me of a story I read once (and yes, this is TRUE, nothing silly here, I promise) about this group, I think it was in California or New York, I read about in a Chicken Soup of the Animal Lovers Soul.  Basically what they did was going around to various parts of this major city and set up box traps for stray cats that would harmlessly capture them.  They'd take the cat to a vet, spay or neuter it, then, depending on its temperament, they'd either put the cat in a local no-kill shelter until it got adopted or, if it was too feral, they'd just release it back where they found it.

Well, they'd gotten a report of a male and female cat roaming around in a certain area.  This was a cause for concern cause male and female equals kittens, equals lots of strays.  Too many strays and they knew local business owners would probably start killing the cats.  So, they set up several box traps, which is basically a box with food where a cat can go right in, but, once inside, is trapped and has to be let out.  They came back to one trap to hear a bunch of wild yowling, screeching and scratching to find they had caught the female cat.  They put the trap in the backseat of their car and left the back door open while they went to check on the other traps. They had been hoping to catch the male as well, but no such luck.

As they came back to the car, they still heard a ruckus going on, but this was different, loader.  As they approached, they realized the male car was there!  He was scratching on the outside of the box, trying to free the other cat inside!  He had braved the outside world, and dove into enemy territory all to try and save his lady friend!  He was so distracted, that they were able to easily push him into the box with the female.

Because of his bravery, they dubbed him Romeo and the female cat Juliet.

Neatly enough, once inside the box, the noise ceased.  Together again, both cats were calm and docile, and easily taken to the vets and fixed.  Their story was printed in the local paper and both cats were adopted together into their new forever home.

So, yeah, I thought was a sweet little story.

You do not fool anyone and who perpetuates "SOUR"?  Since it's your word, it's on you.   :teddyr:
