Oh boy... I hate political threads, but this is on topic so... Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Accused of being insensitive. One character is a racist and he doesn't the comeuppance some audience members wanted. Call Me By Your Name The leads play gay men, but aren't gay in real life. (The director is gay; he just thought they were the best actors.) The Shape of Water Accused of plagiarism. The Post In reality the New York Times was the 1st to report on the Pentagon papers. All the Money in the World Kevin Spacey's was accused of sexual harrasment, so his scenes were re-shot with Christopher Plummer. (Surprised Plummer's still alive.) Powell on February 26, 2018, 02:33:31 PM All of those complaints are silly (except maybe the plagiarism one, I haven't looked into it---but 90% of the time those suits are shakedowns by an author looking to make a buck off a more successful work).
It's totally inaccurate to count THE POST as a scandal, the movie explicitly credits the NYT with breaking the Pentagon Papers story. I quit watching the Academy Awards when they started feeling less about movies and more about causes. I think people in this era like a sense of angry outrage and that's long since take over awards shows.

Racists aren't my favorite people but most of them are just offensive and obnoxious. Not all of them act on their views. Sometimes you just have to live with the fact someone has bad views.
