In two minds about this one as I tend to be with reboots, but here is hoping its a good one.

You know what would make an awesome Predator movie?

Set it in Syria or Afghanistan.  A black ops team has been sent to capture and extract a high level terrorist leader for interrogation, due to a major threat to other countries.  But the Predator has its eyes on this leader as well.

The movie moves from military ops action to escape and evasion of the Predator as it attempts to take the terrorist leader.  Moral conflict ensues because the terrorist is not worth saving, but they have their orders because the information could save thousands of lives.

How it ends it up to the scriptwriters.  It could be really, really good.  But if you see a Predator movie like this in the future, remember, the idea appeared here first!

Why does any Predator want someone? To rip out their spine and polish their skull into a trophy, then hang it from their belt or wall.  A high level terrorist leader, presumably someone who has done beheadings and bombings, would be a very suitable Predator target.

Pred wants him dead, and hung on a wall.  Team wants him clean and not dead at all.

I'm envisioning a few endings to this one.  The Predator's constant chase terrifies the terrorist into confessing (somehow) and ...

Holy heck.  What if the terrorist leader had CAPTURED or killed a Predator and was attempting to reverse engineer the atomic gauntlet bomb?  This could be a plot twist revealed about halfway through.  And that's the threat that places other countries in danger.  The terrorist tells that the bomb is of extraterrestrial origin and uses that as a bargaining chip to make the team keep him safe.

At first it seems like a fairly simple chase.  Then it's a retrieval/rescue of a captured Predator, but Pred still wants the skull of the terrorist.  And the team is trying to keep the terrorist alive so he will divulge the whereabouts of the reverse engineered Predator weaponry.

I know, it's a bit messy, but it could be streamlined and worked out really well.  It has action, suspense, a return to the survival horror of the original Predator movie, and ties in with current international threats.

How does it end? Things explode. Literally.

Would Preds take the kids on hunts?  We've never seen a Pred child, I don't think.

Is the terrorist leader a frothing psychopathic nutcase totally deserving of death, or is he someone who deeply but irrationally believes that the ends justify the means?  Just thinking about character and whether we give some vague sympathy.

Then again, we all know that Pred is coming to make himself a new vertabrae necklace.  So the terrorist leader is as awful as possible so the audience gets that cathartic release when his time is up.

Do we play to the Pred weakness of not being able to see cold objects?

I'm imagining a dialogue scene between the terrorist and the leader of the team.  He's glistening with sweat and covered with dirt, and telling the team how his men have been picked off, one by one, for the last month.  Their bodies are found hanging in buildings, missing heads and spines.  And they are missing in the order of his chain of command, and he knows he is next.  He sarcastically praises the team for 'rescuing' him and thanks them for being human shields against the alien beast that has been killing his men for weeks.

"You will keep me alive.  You MUST keep me alive.  And if you don't, I still win, because Allah has given us his Fist in the form of that monster's technology.  Even if I die, nothing will stop the storm of jihad."    The team leader suppresses a grimace and walks out.

Goddamn, this movie needs to be made.

Does Shane "I Hate South Africans so I wrote Lethal Weapon 2 Black" have anything to do with this?

I am excited about a new Predator movie generally. I don't know why, but I always seem to enjoy them. The last one Predators is underrated in my opinion (that scene with the Danny Trejo trap was wonderfully executed).

That said I'm still hanging for a proper AVP movie based on the general plot of the games. It brings out the best aspects of both franchises which weren't properly utilised in the movies: A bunch of earth scientists find a series of ancient ruins which house Alien eggs. In the course of studying them something goes wrong and a complement of Marines are sent in to investigate/rescue. The thing that went wrong? The ruins are actually an ancient Predator hunting ground and guess who's back to go through their annual (or whatever) rite of passage.

I liked the last predator movie too.

I'm just afraid this one will have the predator as the embodiment of 'toxic masculinity' and it will be defeated by a non binary androgynous gender fluid vegan.

i can't think of any reason that a pred wouldn't take his kid on a hunt, all preds train their kids that way, including humans. i started going hunting with my da & uncles when i was around 8. deep sea fishing too.
