Good:

The Magnificent Seven, (50's version) a remake of The 7 Samurai

A Fistfull of Dollars, illegal remake of Yojimbo. They cleared that up before it was released in the US.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, (50's version) a remake of the silent version

Frankenstein, (30's version) remake of a silent version

The Theif of Baghdad, (40's version) remake of a silent version

The Mysterious Island, remake of a partial sound film

The Music Box, remake of a silent Laurel & Hardy film

The Swiss Family Robinson, large scale remake of the 30's/40's version. Disney actually bought the rights to the earlier version & took it out of circulation.

The Maltese Falcon, remake of a pre-code version.

Bad:

Irwin Allen's Version of The Lost World. I love it, but it's not that good. Lizards aren't convincing dinosaurs. Starts too slow, little character development.

Ugly:

The 90's Lost in Space Movie. Hanna Baraberra's Lost in Space Cartoon.

If you're looking for an Ugly remake, I don't think it gets uglier than Rob Zombie's Halloween movies.

Good- .
.The CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
.HORROR OF DRACULA (195) with the same stars as above.
.the MUMMY (1959)- I wouldn't call this a remake of the Karloff version-more a remake of all those Lon Chaney Kharis movies. Even the mummy's name is Kharis.
.NOSFERATU (1979) Though before viewing I thought it impossible to remake this classic film.
.the HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (1939) I like this version better than the Lon Chaney film!

.BAD-
.DRACULA (1979) -I dunno-,Frank Langella's open bloused, blow dried Count didn't work.  He would look at home in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.
.BLOODLUST (1961) was a remake of 1932's the MOST DANGEROUS GAME. Starring Mike Brady!
. the WOLFMAN (2010) It was touted as the  rebirth of Universal's Monster series. I dunno, just fell flat for me.
.the BRIDE (1985) with Sting. With Sting. Nuff sed.

UGLY
.PSYCHO (1998) WTF were they thinking? And wtf was with the cows?
.NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 3-D (1968) What a piece of s**t.
.KING KONG (1976) With all the F/X available- with Harryhausen still making movies, they put Rick Baker in a monkey suit and had him wrestle a fake robot snake. And that scene with the mechanical Kong stiffly lifting the cage like a giant un-jointed action figure was laughable.
.PLAN 9 (2015) why? WHY?  Ed Wood's film was unintentionally BAD. This is just bad. and pointless.

Rcmerchant, in regards to wat you said about nosferatu, you ought to like 'shadow of the vampire", a film that has elements of a remake of nosferatu and is both original and very good.

GOOD
. GALAXY OF TERROR (1981) is a gory remake of JOURNEY TO THE 7TH PLANET (1962)
. the new PLANET OF THE APES series of films are fantastic re-imagining of the original series.

BAD
. METROPOLIS (1927/1984) This is the original film, but Georgio Moroder decided it needed a soundtrack that consisted of Bonnie Tyler, Loverboy, Jon Anderson(?!), and some other warbling morons. Sweet Satan strike him down.  :hatred:

UGLY
.Larry Buchanan's Z budget remakes of Roger Corman's great B sci-fi classics.

I've seen both- and SOLARIS is as far from GOT as peas from pork chops.

I agree with the HAUNTING remake.  Whatta load.

More-
GOOD
Vincent Price's HOUSE OF WAX (1953) was an excellent remake of Lionel Atwill's MYSTERY IN THE WAX MUSEUM (1933).
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS  (1978) was just as good as the 1956 version.

BAD
The OLD DARK HOUSE (1963) made a mockery of James Whales 1932 creepy classic.

UGLY
HOUSE OF WAX (2005) Dam. 2 words-Paris Hilton. UGH!

... somebody remade Plan 9?

WHY?

Because they really don't get it. They are trying to make a buck pandering to BAD movie fans- dumb f**ks are just trying to make money on our thing.
Called lowest common denominator.
They end up doing just the opposite-being reviled by the community they try to infiltrate.
We are not stupid people. We know bad from BAD.  :drink:

The Good: KING KONG (1933)
The Bad:   KING KONG  (1976)
The Ugly:  KING KONG  (2005) Gorgeous film that is going down that road.  Isn't KONG a monster?  In the first film he grabs a girl out of her window and drops her in the street.
