Title: B movies to watch.
Post by: Svengoolie 3 on April 22, 2018, 09:43:35 AM
The lost missile. An unusual SciFi B movie about a possibly accidenal alien attack on earth. A huge missile (or was it a ship who's crew was dead?) Enter earth's orbit with an atomic (probably nuclear fusion From the description)  engine still active. An unnamed foreign country (KOFFrussiaKOFF) tries to shoot it down, resulting in it  entering earth's atmosphere, engines still radiating a million degree heat. It will eventually incinerate all earth unless stopped but what can move fast enough to survive it's nuclear heat aura to reach and destroy it?

The monolith monsters. A meteor hits earth, the lifeless stone has unusual properties . when exposed to water it begins to absorb silicone from anything nearby and grow. When it gets too big it collapses and shatters, eachnpiece repeating the cycle. Some bad science hurts the film but it is an unusual entry in the 50's SciFi alien monster movie.

Evils of the Night (1985)

Horny teens with big hair are kidnapped and held hostage in a garage. After physical and mental torture by two sleazy guys they are brought to a rural hospital that is actually a spaceship. The "doctors" are John Carradine and Julie Newmar playing aliens wearing ridiculously silly space suits. Their mission is to drain the teens youthful lifeforce or something like that.

B-Movie incorporating teen sex comedy, backwoods terror, slasher elements, torture porn and (obvious out of place) unintentional naive 1950s-like sci-fi that would've made Ed Wood proud. Also: Aldo Ray is in this (seems like he was in EVERY 1980s B-movie), two lesbian space nurses making out and plenty of lazerbeam zapping.

Doppelganger (1993)

A young writer rents a room to a pretty but strange young woman. Soon enough they both fall in love but the young woman is haunted by an evil alter ego.

The big draw here is Drew Barrymore shortly before her second career boost. Doppelganger wants to be many things, but it is mainly a cheap B-Movie trying hard to be stylish. Filmed in sunny L.A. the audience gets a whiff of early 1990s urban lifestyle and fashion on a budget, Danny Trejo kicked in the balls, Drew taking a shower and Drew doing a super sensual solo dance at a party to a corny 'Enigma - Sadeness Part i' rip-off song.

Creation of the Humanoids (1962) - this was apparently one of the late andy Warhol's favorite movies. It's completely ridiculous. these aliens have unbelievable amounts of dialogue they say to each other. They think they are at the UN or doing Shakespeare or something it's out of hand.

Kung Fu Dunk (2005) - its Shaolin Soccer but with ridiculous fake dunks. what's wrong with that? nothing if you ask me

Agree completely about "creation of the humanoids". A zero budget movie that had some deep concepts and intelligent ideas that took mainstream movies a long time to catch up to.  In some ways it explored themes like " ghost in the shell" did decades later.

Also had one hell of a zinger line in it. A robot tells a human "I know who my creator was. You have tontake yours on faith."

MONOLITH MONSTERS is classic. Those towering pillars creeped me out as a kid.

EVIL SPAWN (1987) is  a remake of the WASP WOMAN, more or less, with Bobby Bresse as an aging actress who receives an experimental anti-aging drug from a frail and mostly incoherent Dr.John Carradine via his evil big-haired assistant Dawn Wildsmith. The draw here is the cheap but gory f/x and cool rubbery monsters.
