Title: The Girl With All the Gifts (2016)
Post by: AoTFan on April 24, 2018, 12:02:58 AM
So, okay, okay, I get it, you say you're burnt out on zombie movies, and, finding out this movie has zombies in it, instantly makes you go, "Ahhh, not again!" but, hey, don't let that be a deterrent!  This is pretty good movie.  Although many like call it a Last of Us ripoff because the plots are so eerie similar, in truth the book (on which this movie is based on) actually came out years before.

Anyway, plot (minor spoilers ahead).  We start out with several kids who are locked away in a prison-like environment, focuses on a young girl named Melanie.  Melanie sits in a bare cell, staring at photo when a buzzer goes off.  She dutifully pulls out a wheelchair with straps on it and sit down, when two armed soldiers come in and, while one keeps a machine steadily trained on her face, the other straps her in.  (Melanie even points it out when he misses a step.)  The girl is then wheeled into a classroom with several other children all similarly held in restraints as a young woman arrives and gives a lecture for the day.  Melanie is obviously the star student, as she gets the all questions right and teacher, even in a moment of affection, reaches out to touch on her head....

Later on, the teacher, the girl, a scientist find themselves outside the facility on the run from an army of "Hungries", flesh eating human infected by a virus fungus.

I won't say anymore about the story, but the acting, especially on young Sennia Nanua's part, is very good.

Check it out!
