Title: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: zombie no.one on May 11, 2018, 05:31:11 PM I'm just watching BLAIR WITCH: BOOK OF SHADOWS... it's so corny and nonsensical I half suspect the director was secretly trolling the actors into doing any random stuff he thought of, just for fun...e.g. giving them lines such as " I had a nightmare that children were looking up my skirt", and "how did you get into college, brush your teeth?", and "the naysayers come here and they say nay"....
I probably won't watch this again but it's a mildly entertaining mess. I remember the original BLAIR WITCH PROJECT being played pretty straight Any other sequels that completely undermine or ignore the 'seriousness' or genuine intent of the originals? there's a few others I can think of... Seriously, WHY? Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Svengoolie 3 on May 11, 2018, 07:27:05 PM HIGHLANDER II: THE QUICKENING. Oh, the pain . . . :bluesad: Agreed. BTW I see what you did there! Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Svengoolie 3 on May 11, 2018, 07:32:19 PM Dr. Phibes rises again.
It wasn't a bad movie but it kinda ignored the original movie's intent. Phibes' wife was dead and he joined her after "avenging" her. Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Alex on May 12, 2018, 05:13:45 AM Rambo 2. Looking at the first and second movies, they really are totally different beasts and it would take a long time for the series to return to its roots.
Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Trevor on May 12, 2018, 12:16:55 PM The Wild Geese 2: no likeable characters and none of the actors from the original such as Sir Roger Moore return.
Motivation from the lead: "Death ate its way into me." Yeah, OK. :tongueout: (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71KF413sfqL._SY445_.jpg) Scott Glenn, Barbra Carrera and Edward Fox busting a Nazi out of Spandau Prison: blah  Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: zombie no.one on May 13, 2018, 04:33:36 PM couple more I was thinking of
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 EXCORCIST 2 AMERICAN PSYCHO 2 HOWLING 2 Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Svengoolie 3 on May 14, 2018, 04:06:25 AM I keep wondering whether or not I should mention Godzilla's Revenge (1969)........... Only as "The Godzilla movie that must not be named." Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Ted C on May 14, 2018, 04:50:03 PM The original Evil Dead was a straight horror film made on a low budget.
With Evil Dead 2, the camp started to creep in. Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: The Burgomaster on May 14, 2018, 05:23:50 PM PHANTASM isn't exactly a serious film, but each sequel is just a more ridiculous parody of the one that came before it. PHANTASM: RAVAGER was just a complete piece of incomprehensible nonsense.
Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: beat_truck on May 14, 2018, 07:16:18 PM Return of the Living Dead wasn't Citizen Kane, but ROTLD 2 was just a cheesy piece of crap that tried (and failed IMO) to be funny and campy. ROTLD 3 was more serious. 4 and especially 5 were just garbage afterthoughts.
Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Svengoolie 3 on May 14, 2018, 07:46:10 PM Um, you people do know that a lot of bad movies are made as tax write offs, right? Watch "the producers" or "lobster man from mars" to see how that is supposed to work.
Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Alex on May 15, 2018, 01:01:04 AM Yes we all know that. Uwe Boll made an entire career out of it. Doesn't mean we can't comment and complain about the results though.
Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: Trevor on May 15, 2018, 03:39:56 AM Uwe Boll made an entire career out of it. The two exceptions to those bad movies are the two he made in South Africa: 1968 Tunnel Rats and the emotionally devastating Darfur / Attack on Darfur. Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: zombie no.one on May 15, 2018, 03:43:45 AM yes the actual reasons are not really relevant....
this thread made me.realise I have never seen: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD HIGHLANDER HOUSE *although I've seen HOUSE 3, which was pretty goofy iirc WILD GEESE PHANTASM *well I think I started watching it once... I'm an amateur! Title: Re: zany sequels to 'serious' originals.... Post by: beat_truck on May 15, 2018, 03:57:55 AM yes the actual reasons are not really relevant.... I own most of them, but haven't got around to watching any of those either, besides Return of the Living Dead of course. this thread made me.realise I have never seen: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD HIGHLANDER HOUSE *although I've seen HOUSE 3, which was pretty goofy iirc WILD GEESE PHANTASM *well I think I started watching it once... Post by: zombie no.one on May 15, 2018, 01:00:23 PM I get HIGHLANDER confused with THE HITCHER (which I haven't seen either...seen about half of the remake but it was a bit bobbins tbh)
