Title: RIP Anthony Bourdain
Post by: sprite75 on June 08, 2018, 06:41:13 AM
Some sad news (https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/08/us/anthony-bourdain-obit/index.html) out of the food/travel world this morning;

Quote
Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series "Parts Unknown." His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

Kate Spade, fashion designer and sister-in-law to David Spade like, earlier this week and now Bourdain.

Shame, man.

There needs to be real discussions around mental illness and not just flashing a number on a screen and telling people to call.  There's a huge stigma around it and it needs to stop.

I recognize that depression and mental illness are very real things, but suicide is just freaking selfish IMO.

It is sad that people can come to believe that this is there only way out and that it is actually a good idea. No matter how much we have advanced technologically or socially we still have these problems haunting far too many people.

Suicide is f**ked. My cousin Ricky and my brother Richie both killed themselves. It's terrifying.

Whenever I get really deep depressed (which I do), I think of when I was a kid and I was with Richie and Jimmy out in the woods, and it started blizzarding. It was crazy wind and snow. I couldn't feel my feet or hands when we finally got home. But we got home.

Sadly, it didn't take the reincarnation of Julius Streicher long to jump on this story and turn it into propaganda against the non neanderthal population.

It's really sad and scary to see how insane a lot of people on america are today.
