Title: SPAWN is getting a ... sequal? reboot?
Post by: Chainsawmidget on July 14, 2018, 01:06:39 AM
Todd Mcfarlane, creator of Spawn has been talking about doing a new Spawn movie since the first came out back in 1997... and nobody was really listening to him.

In the past he's said he wants it to be Super R-rated DARK.  He wants a Stan Lee cameo where Stan is wear a dirty wifebeater, hasn't shaved for days, is smoking a cigar, and drinking a beer and just acting nasty.  He wanted Leonard DiCaprio to star in the movie (not as Spawn).  He wanted the movie to NOt focus on Spawn but focus on the cop tracking Spawn  (Which I'm sure is what everybody wants in a Spawn movie.  Less Spawn.)

I don't know if any of those ideas are holding up, but I do know he's written the new script himself and he's directing it himself.  (He's never directed anything before.)  Oh, and I also know he doesn't have Leo.  What he does have is ... the guy who played Hawkeye in Avengers as his lead cop and the guy who played Electro in Amazing Spider-man 2 as Spawn.

I don't think anybody really wants a Spawn movie at this point besides Todd.  He's so 90s it hurts.
I'm personally expecting this to be a trainwreck.

Yeah.
I remember in 1989, I was drawing for a self published comic book company from Kalamazoo for a total of 2 days. That was it. The garbage they were putting out- I didn't wan't to be a part of it. It was so bad.

...which we all know, worked out so well for Stephen King (Maximum Overdrive)!  :twirl:

Seriously tho... I have only vague memories associated with the first Spawn film, mostly about how cheap the special effects looked and Martin Sheen chewing the scenery for all he was worth.

I was getting out of the comic book hobby in the early 1990s when Spawn first blew up big... I bought the comic for the first year or so, just cuz I dug MacFarlane's art work (like most fanboys of the era)... until one day when I sat down with all the issues that I'd collected thus far and read them all back to back... and I realized that I hadn't understood a single thing that had gone on in those 18 or so issues. Seriously, that comic may have looked great, but it made NO DAMN SENSE whatsoever. So I sez "Mmmm, yeah, I think I'm done with Spawn."

I kinda liked the first Spawn movie.    Violator (the Clown) was my favorite part.
