Title: Help settle an arguement. Post by: Alex on August 03, 2018, 05:38:17 PM Ok, while I was at work for the past couple of days and dealing with an issue that had potential major implications for national defence I had to discuss something of even more import with my opposite number elsewhere.
They dared proclaim that Rocky IV is the best Rocky movie. Clearly anyone who isn't on a severe amount of drugs recognises that in fact it is really Rocky III which is by far the superior entry in the series. Not that I feel I have to remind any of you of the reason why, but here are some of them. The soundtrack. Eye Of The Tiger practically defines 80's cheesy rock while Burning Heart is but a pale imitation. The bad guys. Clubber Lang is played by Mr T. He is an animal who sets out to destroy what is put before him. I pity the fool who stands in his way. Ivan Draco... well he is at best a pretty boy. No real heart to win, just a product of the system he was brought up in. The deaths. Micky's heart attack is way more touching that Apollo Creed's predicatable death. Anyone care to play Devils Advocate and support the losing side that is Rocky IV? Title: Re: Help settle an arguement. I don't recall the title but it was about how crooked boxing managers. Exploit and rob boxers after using them up.

ROCKY IV is one of the worst mainstream movies ever made.

The Russians are all cliched characters, like the Germans used to be in old WWII movies. Rocky goes from uneducated street guy to psychologist when he questions Apollo's motivation for wanting to fight Drago ("You think it's not you against him? You think it's you against you?") Rocky's speech at the end (which seemingly causes all the Soviet high officials to instantaneously change their political and Social views) is embarrassing ("if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!") And he's wrapped in the American flag while he gives the speech. I blush when I watch this movie because I'm so embarrassed for everyone involved.
