During a fierce storm, he loses his cool, and his first officer, Van Johnson, takes over the ship This movie pulls you in all directions. At first-you think Fred MacMurray is the good guy-but no. He's a cowardly back stabber. Bogie- who is supposed to be the 'Bad Guy',- does such a great job in his role- you hate him and feel bad for him at the same time. A great performance by a great actor. This is NOT a war movie. It's about human nature. But Johnson doesn't want to do it. He's sweating it out. Dam! Such a good movie.
