While Futurama had some really emotional moments, I think this episode did the best job of managing both the drama and the comedy. Kirk wanted to kill the horta for what it had done, Spock thought it might not be right to kill it. They disagreed but kirk had faith in Spock, later when kirk found out the truth he was willing to kill fellow humans to protect the horta. Leonard nimoy had to do some serious acting and emoting in this episode, which was even harder given how funny the horta prop looked. All in all I think it caught the spirit of th original star trek series perfectly.
