Title: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Post by: ER on January 04, 2019, 10:07:14 AM
This 1950's period piece off Amazon Prime starts GREAT, quickly glides down to good, then by episode 1:4 boogies into boring and stays so firmly stuck there I honestly don't care at this point what season two even holds (it inexplicably trades Manhattan for Paris, I'm informed), though I'll cheerfully admit this is a well-acted, visually-striking series that hits some pitch-perfect high notes while it's briefly in top form. After episode one I thought this was 'a keeper for all-time' (anyone?) but it's challenging to sustain that sort of momentum, and this show couldn't do it despite the best efforts of its spectacularly high energy cast.

What you end up with is The Occasionally Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

I'd give it an A+ for setting and performances, a C- for plot, and call it an overall B.
