(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DwKLfnLWsAER0HC.jpg) This is from a recipe book from 1747 for march-pane (marzipan) hedgehogs. are hedgehogs the same as porcupines? they look similar This is, I guess, what British families did as a joke to point out how destitute they were in contrast to the King who took all their money. the recipe is herein https://livesandlegaciesblog.org/2016/12/20/yes-virginia-there-is-a-christmas-hedgehog/ it suggests pouring custard outside the hogs so it will be a "pretty dish" well I don't know if i agree but there it is.
