A load of crap, as usual.

BEST PICTURE: "Hereditary" and "Death of Stalin" not nominated. Let's hope "The Favourite" can unseat "Roma" (the "boring" movie of the year).

BEST ACTOR: Ethan Hawke not nominated? Biggest snub of the year. I haven't seen enough of those to have a pick. They're all from screeners I chose to pass on.

BEST ACTRESS: Toni Collette, snubbed. Best actress of 2018 Helena Howard snubbed (but she was snubbed by everyone). Olivia Colman should win. Would not be disappointed by Melissa McCarthy or even Lady Gaga (she's the only thing from "A Star is Born" that should have been nominated).

SUPPORTING ACTOR: Let's pull for Richard E. Grant. Where is Michael B. Jordan? They gave a nod to "Black Panther" but omitted the best performance?

SUPPORTING ACTRESS: I'll go with Rachel Weisz, but who cares at this point?

BEST DIRECTOR: None of the above.

ANIMATED FEATURE: They pretty much got this one right, although I don't get the appeal of "Mirai." I'd vote for "Incredibles 2" but wouldn't be disappointed if "Spider Man" wins.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: I'd vote for "Can You Ever Forgive Me?", but I sort of know one of the co-writers of "BlacKKKlansman," so that's my sentimental choice.

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Both my top choices were snubbed. What does the Academy have against Paul Schrader, did he kick ALL of their dogs? And can't you guys throw a bone to Boots Riley? You don't have to let him win.

Good to see "Border" was nominated for Makeup, but where is "Suspiria"?

Overall, these nominees are terrible, even by the Academy's crappy standards.

Agreed.

I like that Richard E. Grant was nominated: he's come a long way since his days as Darwin Mayflower

I haven't seen most of the movies nominated for every award category.

I will say this about the ones I did see.

I really liked Black Panther. I thought that it excelled in all the specific categories it was nominated for. It was definately one of the best movies I saw released in 2018.

The visual effects for Infinity War are spectacular.

I haven't seen even one of the nominated films. I also don't plan on watching the Oscars because they haven't celebrated the medium in a long time, they've celebrated people and points of view. The last time I did watch I was bored. I did used to like them.

Well, we all know that black panther will likjely win because anyone not voting for it will be condemned as a racist.

Even if they voted for BLACKKKLASMAN instead?

I really don't think that's the way it works. AA votes are anonymous. People often just vote for their buddies. They have changed the demographic makeup of the Academy in an attempt to have fewer ROWM and more rich young ethincally-diverse females in hopes to boost votes for female and minority helmed films.

I think the main problem with AA voting isn't that they let outside politics effect their vote in as that they are biased towards safe, boring movies that don't take chances.

I don't think I've ever watched a movie just because it won awards. I've never watched an awards ceremony either (of any kind). If these awards were been voted on by the general public I could understand them a bit more, but people involved in the movie business giving awards to other people in the business seems a bit like a substitute for giving yourself a blowjob.

“Detainment,” Vincent Lambe

Apparently this film has caused controversy in England as it deals with the [expletive deleteds] who murdered James Bulger and humanizes them in a way: I hope it does not win.

Yeah, the family of the murdered toddler are pretty unhappy about it and have asked it to be withdrawn. The director said he wanted to make a film that would help people understand the minds of the killers. Personally, that is something I don't want to understand.

A lot of people are extremely upset about Green Book getting Best Picture. Supposedly it's the most controversial best picture winner since Crash.
I've never seen Green Book because it looked boring as s**t. The only reason I watched the Oscars was because I was watching some dudes on a Twitch stream make fun of it.
By the time Best Picture rolled around the general consensus with these three friends is that the winner is going to be either Roma or Black Panther.
When they pulled out the card and said "Green Book" my computer sounded like that noise you hear when the THX logo shows up. Man, they were p**sed.
The only Best Picture nominees from last year I saw were BlacKkKlansman and Black Panther. Klansman was okay and Panther was hot garbage so I didn't have much of an opinion.

There were only two awards I was upset with. Isle of Dogs was nominated for Best Animated Picture and lost to Spider-Man Into The Spider-verse. Upsetting, but unsurprising.
Isle of Dogs was nominated again for Best Original Score. I had my fingers crossed it would win. Not only did it lose but it lost to f**king BLACK PANTHER.
I don't care how much you like Black Panther, it had the most cookie cutter Marvel score but with African drums thrown in. I barely remember the score for that movie.
"Original" my ass! The score to Isle of Dogs was absolutely perfect. It knew exactly how to sound ominous and intimidating or grand and epic.
The fact that Isle of Dogs, my favorite movie of the year, didn't win either or it's Oscars, and lost to one of the most unoriginal soundtracks ever was beyond aggravating.

GREEN BOOK was OK---I'm not one of the haterz---but it's really difficult to see how anyone could view it as the best movie of the year, much less a consensus.

Happy Olivia Colman won, that's one they got right, at least.

SPIDERVERSE or ISLE OF DOGS would have been fine. I preferred DOGS but they were almost neck and neck.

Best Original Score should have gone to MANDY (not nominated). My next vote would have gone to FIRST MAN (not nominated), then COLETTE (not nominated). Of those that were nominated, I guess ISLE OF DOGS. I don't remember much of the score for any of the others. People were going crazy for BEALE STREET but all I remember is they played "Kind of Blue" in-movie, great music but not exactly original.

I won 22$ in the betting pool on how long before spike lee was b-tching about the oscars being racist because he didn't win.

Me neither: I am very glad that it didn't win.

Maybe we should say screw the Oscars and have a BMDO Awards party every year.

And there was me thinking we should do them all naked. Lol, you would be free to wear what ever you like. I feel that low budget versions of dresses worn by people at the awards would be appropriate.  :twirl:

I would wear my undies but then no one would come to the party.

I'm surprised that people didn't realize that the Oscars have been crap for the last few years. I don't recall where I heard it/read it, but the Oscars is for those who fellatio each other to win it. Maybe it's changing, maybe I don't care enough, but we'll see if it gets better.

There's still people who believe that Charlize Theron was the first SA to win an Oscar.

I just watched "Skin", the short movie that somehow won the Oscar. I don't know how, it was pretty terrible.
But it is worth a laugh. Funny enough I gave it a 4/10 on IMDb, but noticed that I rated the wrong thing. There's another movie called Skin, made in 2018, by the same person, and it's feature length.
Yeah, that's confusing.

---
Spoilers if you give a s**t
---

The movie tried to tackle the topic of racism and did it in a very bad and awkward way. While an important subject matter, this movie didn't do a great job handling it.
But the main character is some kid with a crazy skin head dad. Racist dad beats up a black guy outside a super market. He ends up being abducted by the black guy's friends.
They knocked him out and somehow managed to tattoo his entire body black. Not sure if that's even possible. He came home and his kid mistook him for one of the black people
that kidnapped him and shot him dead with a rifle. And I laughed so hard I had to cover my mouth.

Very bad, very awkward, but fun for a laugh.
How it got an Oscar is a mystery.
