Kinda sorta. There is an anime film in the can--saw the trailer in Osaka when I caught "Godzilla X Megaguilas" ah-hem--called "Metropolis," but it is based on a manga by Osamu Tezuka ("AstroBoy"). Tezuka did a number of manga with titles based on films from the Twenties and Thirties, and/or classic lit ("The Lost World," "Crime and Punishment"), some of which were actually based on the title source, some apparently not. The "Metropolis" trailer is hard to judge--can't tell if it's going to follow the Fritz Lang film or not--and I can't recall having read the manga...regardless, the film looks very retro and gorgeous.

Quiz: Disney swiped liberally from Tezuka's "Jungle Emperor" (AKA "Kimba The White Lion") to create "The Lion King." Which recent anime does their new film, "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" steal from--so much so that lawyers should be called?

Okay, doesn't look like it's gonna follow the Fritz film at all.

Just as well -- If they really do that, then my disco-slasher version of Citizen Kane may have attention drawn from it . . . .
