It looks like the Alien franchise might actually be getting its own animated series.

According to a report by The Observer, the popular 2014 survival horror videogame Alien: Isolation is getting an animated adaptation. A seven-episode miniseries is already in development, and it looks like the show is being prepared for mature audiences with the production team aiming to work on a hard R-Rating. The visual effects production team of Alien: Isolation, Axis Animation, is currently working on producing the series.

Right now there’s no word where the series will be screened, but the Alien animated series may very well air on the official website of the Alien franchise.

This might come as a surprise to some. While there have been reports saying that multiple live-action adaptations of the Alien movie were being developed, this is the first time we’ve heard of an animated series. It’s hard to imagine how dark the series might be with a hard R-Rating and what kind of networks might want to air it. Maybe Adult Swim? Or HBO?

For those who aren’t familiar with the storyline of the game, Alien: Isolation features Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda. The videogame is set fifteen years after the events of the original Alien movie which premiered in 1979 and shows Amanda investigating her mother’s disappearance. However, as she searches for her mother, Amanda’s salvage spacecraft becomes infested by xenomorphs that massacre her crew. Amanda ends up trying to escape the ship with her life.

The Alien animated series has yet to receive a release date but we’ll update everyone as soon as we get word.
