He won the best actor Oscar for his role as a paraplegic Vietnam vet in the 1978 film Coming Home. Honestly, this brings to mind something that Michael Crichton said after working in Hollywood (Crichton, BTW, was a a certified genius with an IQ of 150). He said in an interview that celebrities, as a whole, were not only the most shallow people he's ever met, but as a group the most stupid.
That being said, when I read this I did throw up a bit in my mouth. When the dust of history settles, I think Trump may well displace Buchanan as the worst President in American history. To echo what Indy said, people spent all those ears calling both ckintins and Obama fascists, dictators, tyrants, etc andcomparig them to hitler, Stalin, Mao, the north Korean dynasty, etc despite zero evidence of any of that being remotely close to he truth. Trump supporters are actually a broad spectrum, believe it or not. Some of them are just stupid and hateful people, but not nearly all. Many deplore his private behavior and wish he'd quit Twitter forever, but they think his economic policies are good for the country. (And let's be honest, the economy is doing remarkably well right now. It was already on the upward swing when Obama left office, and I give him some credit for that, but it has gained strength under Trump.) Some people simply fear Hillary Clinton. She's not a likable figure, and even if only a tenth of the things said about her over the last two and a half decades are true, the Democrats were downright stupid for nominating her. She was a deeply flawed candidate. And there are many who really don't like Trump at all, but they didn't want the Supreme Court dominated by leftists for the next generation, so they held their noses and voted anyway. The left created Trump as much as the right did. For years we've been told we wanted to starve old people when we pointed out that Medicare and Social Security were running deep in the red, we were accused of wanting to kill gay people when we questioned the wisdom of redefining marriage by judicial fiat, and we were accused of hating women when we questioned America's practice of mass abortion as ex post facto birth control. Call people deplorable long enough, and they will become deplorable. The latest foe is Mexico upon which Trump placed tariffs of 5% on products coming from Mexico because he could not fix the problem of people who want to enter the U.S., and he thinks by placing these tariffs, it will solve the problem.
