Title: BRIGHTBURN (2019)
Post by: indianasmith on June 01, 2019, 09:58:30 AM
I went to see this with my daughter  last night - what a brilliant, original idea for a horror movie!
I can't wait to see if they do a sequel to this one - certainly they left the door wide open for one.
I'm not going to post any spoilers except just a general idea of the plot here:

What if you had a 12 year old with all the powers of Superman - but he was a complete and utter psychopath?

Brandon Breyer has just turned 12; he is the beloved adopted son of a Kansas farmer couple.  but as puberty approaches, Brandon notices some changes in his emotions and in his body that are NOT typical puberty issues!  Superhuman strength and an increasingly aggressive attitude, indifference to human suffering, and oh yeah - he can fly, too!

I really liked this movie; the more I reflect on it the better it was.
Wonder what Brandon's college career will be like?

Supposedly, the concept for this movie was "The Kents find a Kryptonian child in a crater, but instead of growing up to be Superman, he grows up to be General Zod."

Maybe this will break the trend of supervillain movies failing.

If you  like the idea of an evil superman yiu might want to read "injustice gods among us".  Superman is driven insane by the joker and becomes a world dictator,  with help from  a number of heroes and villains.

Yiu can read it free and legally on line starting here.

Beware this is a huge, complex and dark comic series spanning 5 years.

I did hear a rumour that DC are considering a Red Son movie, where Superman landed in the Soviet Union instead of the USA. No idea if they are looking at an animated movie or live action (I'd imagine the former, but I'd be interested in seeing it with real people).

I saw the animated batman the dark knight returns movie with peter weller doing batman.  Superman had essentially gon e bad in that he let the president use him as a weapon.  Superman commits mass murder against soviet sailors at his order.  Guess who the president is.

Great movie!  I saw this last night with my brother.  Some nice gore, good tense scenes.  No bad acting.  Very entertaining and there's quite the crazy ending!  Don't leave the theater right as the credits begin!  Man, I hope there is a sequel (looks like there could be one).

I haven't seen the animated version, but back in the day when I read the graphic novel, the prez was definitely a Ronald Reagan look-alike (although he was never actually named).
