Title: BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE (2019)
Post by: indianasmith on June 05, 2019, 11:41:44 PM
Four guests check into the El Royale hotel, a once-ritzy establishment fallen on hard times, which straddles the border of Nevada and California.  Each guest harbors a dark secret; so does the hotel's lone employee. Before the night is over, secrets will be revealed, lives changed, and some even ended.
This is a brilliant, dark little film that I enjoyed far more than I thought I would.  Jeff Bridges ("The Dude" from Big Lebowski among many other roles) is brilliant as Father Daniel Flynn, the mysterious priest and main character, and Chris Hemsworth ("Thor") does a surprise turn as a very nasty villain.
4/5

I've seen this one advertised a lot on a streaming service Kristi signed us up to. Been wondering about giving it a watch. Might try it tonight while Kristi is out at her formal reception ball thing.

This movie was really not what I was expecting going in.  It stayed unpredictable.

Hemsworth played the baddie in an almost casual likable way which made his cult leader status feel even more dangerous.

I'd recommend it.

I didn't like it at all.  What's the point?
