Title: Parasite (2019)
Post by: Olivia Bauer on December 05, 2019, 02:34:32 PM
A pretty fantastic South Korean film by renowned director Bong Joon-ho. Despite being a foreign movie it's in several US theaters.

It's kinda hard to pin down exactly what this movie is since it often feels like it's switching genres. The film is about this poor family that
have a run in with a much richer family. Wanting a better home to live in they all conspire to get the help fired so THEY could take their place.

The tone is inconsistent but I think that's what makes it pretty brilliant. I don't want to spoil too much though and I'll just recommend you watch it.

8/10

Very watchable. Even gets a bit gory at the end. Unless you just can't stand subtitles, you're not likely to regret it.

My sister doesn't like non-English movies because she dislikes reading subtitles. But she absolutely adored Parasite.
She also really liked Chan-Wook Park's Thirst.

Unless you are fluent in the Korean language, the subtitles actually force you to follow the story, which is what makes this film so immersive and fascinating.

Great movie! A lot better than Okja, which I found disappointing.
