Title: VHS adult surprise - inspired by true events
Post by: Archivist on October 10, 2020, 01:53:24 AM
In the mists of time when I was at school, a kid from a couple of years below told me about something that happened in class that week. They were watching a movie based on a novel they were studying in English class, when the picture fuzzed out and was replaced by a very quick glimpse of a naked woman on a man. It appeared that this was a scene from a porn movie. The tape shifted back to the original film. Then a bit later, the tape fuzzed again, and became a woman getting it really hard from behind. The teacher leaped up and stopped the tape.

On a recent post somewhere, someone related how they rented a movie on VHS from a local convenience store, but found that it was a home made porno taped over it instead!

These incidents got me thinking about something which can no longer be done. What if there were pranksters who would rent normal movies and insert sex scenes into them before returning the tapes? In those days, it wouldn't be easy to trace, and if you did it with fairly obscure or unpopular films, you could get away with it.

Has anyone seen something like this in real life, and I don't mean Fight Club. Has anyone had this idea themselves? Just wondering.

Never seen anything like this myself, but I have heard stories. Mix-ups have happened, particularly with cable. Here's one:

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/porn-movie-interrupts-morning-news-broadcast-at-hamilton-tv-station

"Viewers watching a TV station in Hamilton, Ont., Friday morning noticed the newscasters onscreen were wearing less clothing than normal.

At 9:30 a.m., the CHCH broadcast was replaced with a few minutes of hardcore gay pornography instead of the news, prompting outrage from many viewers and a slew of apologies from the station."
