Title: THANKSGIVING
Post by: RCMerchant on November 22, 2020, 12:17:55 PM
What are you gonna do this year?

I'm going to make a small turkey, with all the trimmings, and Tupperware a dinner for my kids and their families to eat.
Because, I have been doing Thanksgiving every year since they were born.
And they have never made a turkey. I make a dam good turkey!
We usually have a huge dinner with Jed, Eddie, they're girlf reinds and my grand kids. I can't do it this year. Eddie's girlfriend works at a hospital as a nurse.  Me sweetie Tiana works as a RNS in a nursing home.
I don't wan't anybody to die because of me unless I stab or shoot them.

Just a small socially distancing get together with my parents and one of my brothers.   Normally, one of my uncles, and my other brother would show up as well-but not this year for obvious reasons.

Everyone I know here in NJ is staying just within the household.

Same here.  Me, my wife, and her Mom - my daughters may stop in (they're pretty much here every day anyway), but no in-laws.
We're doing chicken and dressing and all the fixings.

Going to be me and my family with turkey, field roast, stuffing, two casseroles, and some pie. I'll probably watch the MST3K Turkey Day marathon as well.

No big feast this year for obvious reason. I'll be making me a couple of turkey sandwiches instead. Happy Thanksgiving!

Just me and mom.  Got a small 10lb turkey I'm about to cook.

Watch some movies.

Just immediate family only this year.  We fried a 10 pound turkey this morning.  Turned out pretty good.  We just had the one fried turkey this year.  Normal years we would fry one then cook one in the oven.  Between the two turkeys we'd have about 25 pounds of turkey total.  We had two frozen ones from last year so we used the smaller one.  The other one is 16 pounds but the fryer can only do up to 14 pounds so we'll probably cook up the other one around Christmas.

My brother brought over a couple large bottles of his home brew today - an altbier and a blonde ale.  I had about a can's worth of the altbier but by the time I had finished that he had already consumed just about all the blonde he brought over so I was just able to get a swallow in of that.  Everyone else had some wine today.  I might have a pumpkin ale this evening.  We have some leftovers but not as much as other years.

I started a turkey breast and stuffing real early. I made corn and taters and gravy and biscuits. So she had some before she went to work.
Tiana is gonna make green bean cassorlle ( I can't spell that word) tomorrow. She had to work today. So I just  cooked the food, took a nap, smoked some weed, watched a double feature of the WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST, and FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE SPACE MONSTER, and took another nap.
Then I woke up...and smoked some more weed.
Tiana will be home at about 11:30!

My wife made "Pecan Kisses" for dessert.
Kind of a merengue cookie made from egg whites, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and pecan halves.
But that can't describe the awesome flavor.
It tastes like angels crying on your tongue!

The governor asked that Thanksgiving gatherings be 8 people or less. We had 9 because of a couple of late additions.

My sister in law opened all the windows and doors (fortunately it wasn't too cold!) and spaced everyone's place sittings around the house. It was a nice gesture, I guess, but people naturally milled about when they weren't eating so it wasn't that socially distanced.

Main dish was ham because they had turkey earlier in the week. I made a tarragon mayo dip that was well-received. Lemon bundt cake for desert (also pumpkin pie, but I can't stand pumpkin).

Didn't like the way the Cowboys game went (not a Cowboy's fan, but I have Ezekiel Elliot on my fantasy football team).

Watched short segments of the MST3K marathon when I could.

All in all pretty non-traditional, but it was nice. Gained a pound this morning.

I had to work.  The dialysis unit is getting recurring sick patients and we've had some positive covid cases.  Things are getting very hectic.  But it was only 5 hours and double pay.  Spent the rest of the night with my brother whipping up fries and seasoned steak strips with provolone.  Yummy!
