Title: Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland (1989)
Post by: zombie no.one on December 26, 2020, 04:48:32 PM
a xmas present from one of my bros...

somehow I just about enjoyed this. it feels more like a half hearted FRIDAY 13TH sequel knock-off than anything to do with the original SLEEPAWAY CAMP... it's littered with dismal attempts at comedy and satire, there's zero attempt to conceal anything about the killer/plot, no twist, there's several ultra-annoying characters who are so bad that you wonder what the actors they didn't choose were like... and yet the general late-80s-ness and slasher-ness just about won me over.

on youtube if anyone's bored enough.

I haven't seen the first sequel, which was apparently made back to back with this one. supposedly it's better...

The first film is terrible, ridiculous, and... unforgettable!    :teddyr:

I will admit, this one is a guilty pleasure of mine, from beginning to end!

The ending of the original is one of the great what-the-f**k moments in horror history, but the sequels are just crap.

Part 2 had the Happy Camper song which to me is on the same level of greatness right next to the first movie's legendary wtf? ending. Part 3 had nothing of that but it still is a fun slasher.

The Sleepaway Camp films are SUPERB.

Love the first 3.

Apparently a 4th exists but came years later.  I didn't see that.

according to wiki the 4th one was scrapped during filming, then released anyway by padding it out with archive footage from the first 3.

but there's also RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP shot in 2003 and released in 2008, directed by the same guy who did the original and with the same actress from part 1

also two more unmade sequels SLEEPAWAY CAMP: BESERK,  and SLEEPAWAY CAMP: REUNION

I've seen the fourth one.  You're not missing anything by skipping it.

The first one is a classic though and the second is a more than decent 80s slasher, if that's your thing.  It's my thing.

I've just remembered there was a girl called Angela Baker in my form at school... I never even knew about the films until my late 20s though...

I checked out both on YT after I posted this thread

I got 25 mins into pt.4 and it was basically ALL flashback material... pass

Part 2 was fun. got a bit surreal constantly seeing every character in their blue camp sweaters though...
