Title: Old movies with thunderstorms in them.
Post by: Scott123 on April 12, 2021, 11:20:55 AM
I'll be the first to admit I'm weird ... but I like really old movies, and if they have thunderstorms, even better. The one example I can cite is "Blue Steel" with John Wayne (1930s). I also like movies that are so old the sound crackles (White Zombie) is an example of that. Do you know of any that are like this?

How old?

First that comes to mind is Back to the Future. Next is The Terror.

Next time you watch The Quiet Man, check out the sky behind Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne in the scene where they take refuge from the rain. It's....a storm.

One of my favorites is Friday the 13th (1980). The thunderstorm lasts almost half the movie.

The OLD DARK HOUSE (1932) didn't have a soundtrack. The soundtrack was a raging thunderstorm that continued from start to finish . And it starred Boris Karloff, Charles Laughton, Gloria Stuart ( who play the old lady in TITANIC! Died at the age of 100! ), And Ernest Thesiger, who stole the show in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN 3 years later.
James Whale, who directed FRANKENSTEIN, the BRIDE of course, and the INVISIBLE MAN- he did this too.

Another clip from the OLD DARK HOUSE (1932) Even if your not a fan of old black and white horror films, I think you would like this. It's really strange, and the acting is just amazing.

The first SA zombie movie Ride The High Wind (aka African Gold) has a violent thunderstorm in it and quite a shock when the storm dies down: Darren MacGavin and friend Michael McGovern get a pants filling shock when the lightning flashes.  :buggedout:
