Are you a member?

I was, haven't been on there in a long time. Some of my family members started getting on my case about Mom, I told them to f**k off as I was genuinely doing my best for her and I haven't gone there since.

I haven't been on there in a couple years.
I don't miss it.
Such an influx of moronic s**t. I found no use for it.

I signed up in 2009, deleted my account 6 months later, signed up again in 2010.

I have always been indifferent with Facebook. I'm not the social media type, I don't like to be the center of attention, I don't really need a platform for my musings, opinions  and whatever. I used to follow celebs and music artists that Interest me but unfollowed all because it got boring. I usually don't do groups, but I did join a 1980s music group a few months ago. It was fun first but got repetitive fast because people post the same popular 1980s songs over and over.

I used to list my favorite movies until one day I noticed Facebook was promoting the Point Break remake with my name attached in mine and my friends feed. It said I like the 2015 Point Break and it is hitting theaters soon. Facebook swapped the 1991 Point Break from my list and replaced it with the remake. I was p**sed. I tried to delete it from my list but Facebook wouldn't allow it because it was part of an ad I think? I then tried to block the Point Break remake Facebook page but couldn't again. Then I changed all my likes to private, which seemed to work as the Point Break remake ad with my name didn't show anymore. After that I deleted everything from my likes and profile. It wasn't until 3 months later I was finally able to delete the Point Break remake from my likes, which was the last remaining title. I've kept my profile and likes empty ever since because of Facebooks odd manipulations. They pulled the same stunt with the Ghostbusters remake one year later.

I don't really have much use for Facebook except for keeping in touch with longtime friends from the states. Most of the people I know personally don't use Facebook anymore, everybody is on WhatsApp.

I resisted for a long time, but I needed to get on for 366 Weird Movies. Twitter, too. Now I check it out every weekday during lunch. It does allow me to connect/interact with a couple of old friends I would fall away from without it. The key is to not respond to every stupid post/comment you see or you'll drive yourself crazy!

I am on it. Mostly for keeping in touch with friends and family around the world. I think I more often post memories up than actual new stuff though.

I'm very active there, doing my part to bust the chops of those who post lies and conspiracy theories, promoting my books, keeping up with family and former students, and liking almost every picture of cats and snakes that gets posted!

I miss peeps like Rev, Newt, Indy, AHD, Alex, Barri on FB where I can post funny stuff but I can do that here too.

Of late, a friend of a friend on there - no one from here - attacked me personally. This person said "You should not disparage the day that the former apartheid country of South Africa found unity in the game of rugby in 1995: you should also chill out and stop being such a pedantic smarty"  :buggedout:

I can't believe I just typed all that out: I was showing how inaccurate the movie Invictus was regarding the events that led to SA winning the 1995 Rugby World Cup, not the actual events on that wonderful day.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Rugby_World_Cup_Final (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Rugby_World_Cup_Final)

That made me feel I didn't want to be on FB much anymore so I left not long after.

I once out of boredom ran all the names of my former classmates through Facebook. Not a single one showed up. I tried the same with childhood friends, only one showed up. He had moved away many years ago, was married and had children. I didn't contact him. Years later I found out that most of my former classmates use a place called stayfriends.de. Out of curiosity I signed up with a fake name just to see who was there. I had tons of friends when I was in school, but not one of them was from my class. Weird huh? I was only contacted once for our 10 year reunion. I never went to any reunions. When I was finished with school it was a closed chapter, and since I wasn't close friends with any of my classmates, why bother?

I'm on it. Basically I use it as a bulletin board to post stuff I think is cool/funny/interesting. No religion, no politics, and for damn sure nothin' about my job.

If hackers/identity thieves are gonna get hold of my personal info from FB, all they're gonna find out is what albums I listened to while walking my dog.

I had Twitter for about... a week? Twitter was even more useless for me than Facebook. I'm on Instagram, joined in 2015 I think. It is basically Facebook with #hashtags
If you want to sell your product on Instagram you have to be a master in #hashtags. I posted a pic of my grilled cheese once. My hashtag was #grilledcheese, but no views even after a couple of weeks. Then I added #gouda #cheddar #wholewheatbread #delicious #cravings #comfortfood #munchies #yummy #latenightsnack #amazing #foodporn #cheesepull and whatnot. Got 132 views 3 hours later. After some time I got bored with adding 50 hashtags for every pic, and quit uploading pictures.
Most of my friends on Facebook post the same stuff on their Instagram. Seems pointless to me. Either do Facebook or do Instagram?

Yeah, I bever use Instagram. I only started an account because I had a friend who was on there and not on FB and it messaging her there was the easiest way to get hold of her. A lot of younger people have left FB for IG because mom and dad aren't on IG.

I’m there but not on Twitter. I’m not really big on posting my life story like some seem to do. Initially, I got coaxed by friends into joining way back in my college years around 2005 or so.

I am on Facebook. I keep in touch with old friends and out of state family members through Facebook (and a few badmovies.org members). I am also in a few groups (mostly comic book groups, movie groups and humor groups). I was in some groups that I got aggravated with and quit, mostly because people were always insulting each other or turning EVERY conversation into a rant about political, religious or social beliefs.

Title: Re: Facebook
Post by: claws on September 20, 2021, 01:11:37 AM
I don't do groups but I should note that Facebook is really trying hard for me to join groups. They always suggest low key, small, indie, obscure, off beat, rare, non-commercial film and music groups. Sometimes I'm really surprised at what they dig up. I assume they are based off my Internet searches though.

What I really find odd about Facebook is their "People you may know" suggestions. They are people I don't know, they aren't even related to people from my friends list. They also suggest I hit up strangers that just joined Facebook. They even promote it as such: These people just joined Facebook. Do they know Facebook is abusing their profiles?

I believe Facebook hits on keywords in posts and, of course, distribute it.
I really don't know, because I quit a few years ago. It was getting real weird. My brother Glenn in California is a Nazi, and he was commenting about really insane s**t, even if I was just posting a song.
Plus... I just didn't enjoy talking to people I went to school with who I never liked.
f**k all that. I would rather talk to you folks.

I like how people use avatars of them when they were young- they are afraid that they will look old and ugly. I am old and ugly. I could care less.
And the lips pursing thing is one of the most disturbing things that wriggle into my brain. It's like they are imitating Paul Stanley of KISS. And flashing gang signs and hold up a handful of dollar bills.  They never even seen a gang, and the money thing....f**k it. Yech.
I don't feel the need to document my every thought and action. And take video or pictures of it.

Also, some people use recent pictures but photoshop the hell out of them. I know a few people who are thin on Facebook and then when you see them in person they are about 40 pounds heavier.

Gotta say that most on my friends list have stopped with self-presentation over the years. It is mostly down to bare essentials - a quick genuine, sometimes out of focus snapshot rather than posing at any given (planned) moment in a selfie manner. Though I still have one or two friends who cntinue to play dress up . Kind of awkward when you see a colleague at work every day and see her again acting like a model on facebook after work. Some just need the attention I reckon.

Major Facebook/Instagram outage today that's lasted for several hours. Not sure what to make of it. Should be interesting to hear the explanation. Very bad for business, stock is down more than 5% which is a 7 billion dollar decrease!

Metaverse is a cool name, but it's a bit too trendy. The name'll probably seem hopelessly dated in 5-10 years.

I might've gone with CyberVerse. I like "Cyber," &, at the very least, it won't become dated.
